Everyone has been complaining about how boring the iPhone 7 update is going to be, and how they are going to skip it altogether and wait for the big update with the 2017 iPhone.

But Apple is no fool - they know the 7 is going to be a boring update, so what do they do? Give you all back the much heralded slate/space black color option. Apple knows how much this color was loved, and they also know that that alone will be enough for thousands of people to upgrade who otherwise wouldn't.

And besides, can you imagine what the QA/QC lottery will be on the 2017 iPhone? I shudder to think of what this forum will be like in the days/weeks/months following the release of THAT phone.

LOL! I had that thought myself.

Here's the problem with that though. There's a company out there called Neucase. They take iPhone casings and anodize the metal in the colors that their customers want. They have a black matte option for the 6/6+ that makes the phone solid black, including the antenna bands on the back.

By the time the 7 comes out my 6s+ will be roughly a year old. Neucase charges $300 for this casing. I know where my money will be going and it won't be to Apple.

I figured that they applied the same logic to the 5S and 6S. Even though they were pretty substantial upgrades, to the masses, they were essentially the same as their 5/6 counterparts. So what do they do? Come out with a brand new and appealing color scheme for those phones. A similar situation could be said for Siri on the 4s.

I think it would be pretty clever to save new colors for the "same design" iPhones. I know adding a deep black color would make me wanna upgrade!

Yeah, I think that's the idea.

Apple knows that this particular model has no real compelling feature that would move a lot of people (other than those who upgrade each and every time there is a new release) from the 6 or 6s.

So, offer 'em the one thing they've been clamoring for since the 5s. Black.

And this is where my middle finger goes up to Apple. They KNOW this is what a lot of people want but they only give it back when they have what might be a weak offering? No thanks. I'll either go the Neucase route or wait until next year.

Not interested in Apple's shallow manipulation of me over a color to increase what might otherwise be limited sales.

As far as any other color they may offer or have offered in the past - not interested. Gold, Rose Gold and anything other than black I don't care about.

If the 7/6SS/Pro/whatever they decide to name it really is a lackluster upgrade, I definitely won't be upgrading to it

I'm liking that Neucase though. Should the next iPhone disappoint, I think I'm gonna pick up a used 6S and put the money I saved toward the Neucase. As of right now, assuming the rumors are true, this is the route I'll be taking.

There has to come a point where MEANINGFUL annual updates simply aren't feasible. With the level of performance at features we have this is bound to happen soon. If not this year or next, soon.

This is fine by me then.

We upgrade our phones once every 2.5 to 3 years (last year was an anamoly) so this will fit right in.
