Could not find anything recent on this issue in the search. Used iPhone 7 purchased 3 days ago. Battery 97% health. It was running 12.4.1 and the touch screen would freeze after 30 minutes or so. Hard reset would bring it back for about 30 minutes. Erased all data on the phone and installed 13.4.1 touch screen worked for a couple of hours then froze again. Today it worked for 4 hours and then froze. Hard reset each time. Only one App added after the erase and 13.4.1 update, WhatsApp. In addition to the freeze sometimes when scrolling it kind of does its own thing for want of a better description. Scrolls really fast. Also on slow scrolling the text is not very crisp there seems to be a judder effect.

All of the above happened with 3D / Haptic switched off. I am trying to decide if it is software related or hardware. Any experience out there? Many Thanks. Returning the phone may not be an option. Long story short. Estranged wife's purchase, I am obliged to help being under lockdown in the same apartment, purchased used in Manila from an on line seller (yep recipe for disaster!).

Sounds like a hardware issue, iPhone 7’s suffered from “touch disease”. If you can’t exchange it, you might seek out a 3rd party that can do board level repairs.
