How much better is ip68 than ip67?

It's not really about being better, as each phone might react differently to water submersion. But here are the technical specifications.

The iPhone 7 is certified with an IP67 rating, which means that it is fully protected from dust and can also withstand being submerged in 1m ( Approximate 3 feet) of static water for up to 30 minutes.

The S8 is IP68 rated and can withstand being submerged in static water, but the specific depth and duration must be disclosed by the company, which in this case is 1.5 meters (Approximate 5 feet) for up to 30 minutes.

I got mud on my 7+ so just gave it a quick wash under the tap. I know it's not technically waterproof, but I'll take my chances with the IP67 rating... I also tend to leave it in the bathroom if I'm having a shower if rather than bother putting in back in another room like I did with my 6+. This still probably isn't best practice, though, so YMMV..!

That's my favorite thing too. I wash my phone every once in a while when it gets dirty.

The Only thing I would caution you while leaving your iPhone in the bathroom during you shower, is steam can be a factor and that's a totally separate issue from being water resistant, which can penetrate past the seals and or cause further issues.

I do benefit, but I do not use it intentionally under water for extended periods of time. When it's raining and I need to check when the next bus is coming, or change a song, I can do so now without worrying that a single drop will kill it.

On a side note, I doubt we will see "water proof" phones for a long time due to the liability factor. Water proofing will wear as time goes on, and I cannot see Apple, Samsung or any manufacturer covering a device for water damage.

I sometimes use my iPhone 7 in the bath, and I also took it in the swimming pool in Mexico. I don't submerge it in water but its good to know it can handle splashes and survive if you dropped it in water for a brief while.

I have swam laps totaling to almost 250 hours with the apple watch series 0. Since the iPhone 7 has the same IP rating I figured I would give it a shot in the steam room. I have used my iPhone 7 in a steam room at the gym every morning since I received the phone last fall. Rough math, 150 days X 10 minutes, would be 1500 minutes of steam exposure. It has not given me a single issue yet.

Disclaimer: I am not saying everyone should or that the steam doesn't hurt the phone.

Yes. I rinse off my iPhone 7+ one in a while when it gets all smudgy and gross. Guess thats what I get for getting a JB iPhone. Looks beautiful though sometimes ;)

Yes, I take my iphone kayaking with me and use it to take videos. It's nice not to have to worry about the splashing on it. I keep it in my life jacket pocket and at least once I fell in. I wasn't even worried about the phone.

I already benefited from the water resistance.

I was out cycling a few weeks ago and got caught in a massive downpour. I was already soaked through and figured it'd be fun to pull out my phone while the rain was still coming down in buckets and take some pictures. It worked great and the phone was fine.

Wouldn't have attempted that with my iPhone 6! :)

Isn't the S8 waterproof vs. water resistant? Also, just curious...will Samsung cover water damage on the S8 if it is waterproof vs. water resistant?

:apple:
They don't cover it but then again, I have only tested it by washing my phone under the tap (did the same with my S7 Edge)

I am absolutely not benefiting from this feature. Apple claims this is water resistant. IP67 rating. I always kept a Caseology Envoy series case and a tempered glass screen protector on it. It looked brand new.

After 10 months of owning my iPhone 7 I dropped it in water for less than a second. I took it out, turned it off, dried it from the outside the best I could. Let it sit for 5 hours, then turned it on. No problems for 3 hours, then screen flickered. So I turned it off and put it in rice. Too late, the damage was done, the back light LCD on the screen was toast. $341 later I get a refurbished iPhone 7 the Genius Bar. Thanks Apple.

Had this rating not been there, I would have turned off the iPhone, dried it the best I could then hit it with a fan and left it in the rice for 72 hours before turning it on. Because of this FALSE claim, I relaxed, and cost myself a lot of money. $798.75 (with tax) for the original, then another $341 for the replacement. I would be going to the competition in the future, but Apple has me right where they want me, iWatch, 3 iPads, AppleTV, and a ton of kids movies on iTunes.

Honestly, the only reason I upgraded from my iPhone 6S was for the water resistance and piece of mind that was supposed to bring.

The only way this benefits anyone is if they drop it in water and can still use their phone later that day. I have dried out a lot of phones given the time. This time I didn’t give it the time because of this FALSE claim. Take the claim away, and I am more careful to begin with, and way more diligent about drying it out. Also, I probably have the much needed headset jack on my phone if this claim were not there. And a cleaner wiring to my car audio system auxiliary jack.
