I am absolutely not benefiting from this feature. Apple claims this is water resistant. IP67 rating. I always kept a Caseology Envoy series case and a tempered glass screen protector on it. It looked brand new.
After 10 months of owning my iPhone 7 I dropped it in water for less than a second. I took it out, turned it off, dried it from the outside the best I could. Let it sit for 5 hours, then turned it on. No problems for 3 hours, then screen flickered. So I turned it off and put it in rice. Too late, the damage was done, the back light LCD on the screen was toast. $341 later I get a refurbished iPhone 7 the Genius Bar. Thanks Apple.
Had this rating not been there, I would have turned off the iPhone, dried it the best I could then hit it with a fan and left it in the rice for 72 hours before turning it on. Because of this FALSE claim, I relaxed, and cost myself a lot of money. $798.75 (with tax) for the original, then another $341 for the replacement. I would be going to the competition in the future, but Apple has me right where they want me, iWatch, 3 iPads, AppleTV, and a ton of kids movies on iTunes.
Honestly, the only reason I upgraded from my iPhone 6S was for the water resistance and piece of mind that was supposed to bring.
The only way this benefits anyone is if they drop it in water and can still use their phone later that day. I have dried out a lot of phones given the time. This time I didn’t give it the time because of this FALSE claim. Take the claim away, and I am more careful to begin with, and way more diligent about drying it out. Also, I probably have the much needed headset jack on my phone if this claim were not there. And a cleaner wiring to my car audio system auxiliary jack.
