Bored at work and interested in the discussion.

7/7 Plus users, will you be upgrading to the new flagship this year or will you be waiting for a two year cycle? Why/why not?

I'm pretty in love with my 7... and also in love with the fact that I've paid half of it off, so the jury's still out for me.

I purposely went for the upgrade every year option of AT&T Next so i could. I will probably update I went too large on the 7S and I know I don't need a 256gb phone, I'll probably pick up a 128gb

I answered "yes" yesterday, but I need to clarify. I'm in the upgrade program, but I will not buy a phone with TouchID on the back.

I will not upgrade my 7+.

However, my wife has a 6s that I will most likely be upgrading to either a 7s or an 8 depending on what actually happens.

We both started with the iPhone 4 as soon as it was released on Verizon. Since the iPhone 5 I upgrade each of our phones every two years, on opposite years. I've had the 4, 5, 6+, 7+, she has had the 4, 5s, 6s. I don't plan on changing this unless some major must have feature comes out.

Waiting to see the phone itself.

I don't like curved displays or touch sensors on the back of the phone. If either of those rumors turn out to be true, I'll be upgrading to the 7S. If Apple's "only" new phone is the iPhone X, and it possesses either of the two flaws I mentioned, I will be keeping the 7. I'm hopeful that they'll release the 7S / 7S + with the same internals as the iPhone X. Apple these days, however, is quite unpredictable. iPad anyone?

Moral of the story, it's way too early for me to know. :D

Gonna have to wait and see what's actually announced and the price that goes with it. I bought an Apple Watch a few months ago and it is seriously making me want an OLED display on an iPhone. But all these leaks suggesting the fingerprint sensor is moving to the back of the phone (seriously, for how many years have we been making fun of android manufacturers for this?) is making me hesitate. Combine that with the fact that this will basically be a version 1 Apple product (still called iPhone but a fairly radical change design wise) and the expected price hike and I will have to wait and see.

I want OLED but not so bad that I can't wait another year if the other features and/or price don't pan out.

I have had every single iPhone since the 3G minus the 5c. I upgrade yearly, but I am not interested in an OLED display, vertical camera, Touch ID on the back (or not at all). I love the viewing angles and versatility of IPS and I will not give up Touch ID at all. My Apple Watch is literally useless in direct sunlight, even the S2 is all washed out.

In oleds defense. The Apple Watch is mostly black with white text. If it was white with black text it would be a lot more visible. (oled has improved in this sense)

OT. Yes I will. But no if they move Touch ID on the back. I don't think this will happen though.

Yeah but OLED devices tend to use a dark interface so wouldn't that lead to lighter colored text? I sed an S6 edge for about a month and sunlight usage was poor at best.

After reading this a thought occured to me... I could see Apple releasing a dark mode feature in iOS 11 but only making it available for the high end OLED iPhone. That would totally be an Apple move to try and upsell folks.

My 7 (4.7) is fine and I am not shelling out more cash as this phone is still awesome and will be for some time to come. I've grown weary of yearly upgrades and the expense that goes with it just to stay cutting edge. There is just not that much in the way of innovations any more that interest me. It is being said a glass backside is coming and wireless charging along with it. Not something I need, smaller bezels? Meh. Not a big enough deal to get all spendy over. Happy with my 7 for at least another year or more.

Ive been saying that all along. They will not release a dark mode for IPS as it would consume more power. OLED uses less power with dark interfaces, while IPS uses less power with light interfaces.

No "Edition" for me. I will be upgrading my 7+ to the 7S+ this year. I'm sure most of the new "Edition" features will be on the 8+ when I upgrade again next year.

I only bought the 7 not so long ago, and I have my Android phone too. So it'll be a while. I don't mind waiting until 2018, but I'm just lying to myself, when the price is right I would get it. At the moment though, I'm not even utilizing the full power of the A10 chip.

Since I upgrade on a yearly basis I would say yes. I just need the phone to release at the 1 year mark or else I'll be wasting money in additional monthly payments.

I will just say yes...and then skip the upgrade. My track record with iPhones and saying nope almost always backfires. :D

The only thing that would get me to upgrade is a better modem with solid WiFi and Cellular. It almost did not surprise me that my new iPP 9.7's WiFi reception was much more responsive & download speeds were faster at my job than my 7+. Job building is notoriously awful with WiFi and Cellular reception.
