this morning I opened the camera app to take a photo and the lens seemingly will not focus.
It blurs and stutters and just stops with a blurred viewfinder.

I tried swapping the camera view to square etc and it does the same. It's like it's constantly trying to focus and just can't.

When I load snap chat it is perfectly fine.

The front facing camera also won't focus.

Anyone else experienced this? I can't 'prove' it's doing this til later as I'm in work at the moment but need to know my options. It's a hassle to return it to Apple (it's bought outright from them) but will they even have stock to swap it for a black 7 Plus? I'm in UK.

Thanks in advance.

Even if there were a solution, it's not acceptable and I would send it back. It may be inconvenient, but necessary.

I feel a bit silly now but turning the phone off and on has sorted it.
Although still odd and I hope it doesn't start doing it again or it will be going back.

Good to hear. Hope it works for you as it should have from the start. If it doesn't, Apple will take of the issue for you.

I'd like to bring more awareness to this issue. My wife is having the same problem with hers. Apple replaced it and the replacement has started doing the same thing. Mine has been fine.

I have posted a thread about this, as well as a video. Mine does the exact same thing - both front and back camera. Apple has replaced my phone twice - my third one is now doing it as well. Also worth mentioning I have set up all phones as "new" and am now running 10.1 beta 2 in hopes it would fix the issue. Nope, still does it.

On mine if you switch to video and back to photo it goes away. When I open the camera and this happens I can open ProCam 4 and it will be fine on there, but if I go back to the iOS camera app it's still there. I think this is a software problem, not hardware.

That was my next question, as all of mine have been restored from a backup.

That's an interesting point... I'm gonna have her try that. If that's the case I might install the 10.1 beta on my wife's phone, then report the bug and see if they get back to me. They actually do a pretty decent job at that.

I was on the phone with Apple for a while last week - they told me they were forwarding the issue on to the engineering team. I just received an email back saying they would like to receive some "additional logging information" from my phone to try and determine what is causing the issue. We'll see how this goes.

As the OP and coz I got quoted I thought I'd post an update...

Mine has only done it again once, nothing else since.
I find turning on and off works but it is annoying.

As someone else said it must be software related, hopefully they can work it out.

this is happening to me! it happened to my 6S+ and now happens to my 7+ -- it must be a software issue with Camera.app -- when it is happening, I can load Instagram or Snapchat and their camera functions do not have a problem. last night, I got it to fix itself by switching to the front camera and taking a video or something like that, I'm not entirely sure. I will play more to figure out what exactly fixed it.

it's not every time though -- I can't replicate it. I was at the Genius Bar with my wife yesterday but it wasn't doing that, so I didn't even mention it.
