Hi Guys,

Just wanted to ask to people who had an iPhone 8 or 8 Plus and people who also have the iPad 10.5" which uses a IPS LCD Display do you guys see is there much of a difference between the display of the iPhone 8,8+ and the iPad 10.5" when Compared to the iPhone X. I mean agreed, the iPhone X has a OLED display but for a layman is it like a difference of Day and Night when watching the display ? The IPS Display that Apple uses in all its other devices is also not that bad !

I am just imagining and thinking that if Apple is bringing all the features of the iPhone X in the next year's iPad Pro will it be something (The OLED display) that will be sorely missed in the 2018 iPad Pro's ?

How is the display difference and picture quality difference between the iPhone 8, 8+, iPad Pro 10.5" and the iPhone X ?

Don't have my X yet. But, played with both iPhones you mentioned extensively in stores. Adjusting all to my preferred watching settings. The X has a very noticeable improvement over the 8+. Little brighter, stronger and more accurate color. It is not a lot and the 8+ has a very good screen. All IMHO. 🙂

You're right, they all have pretty good screens. I've got the 10.5" iPad Pro, and find that with True Tone on and a modest brightness is a very, very good LCD. However, the OLED on the X just feels like it's painted on. The contrast and colours are accurate and it doesn't need much brightness to get a really good image. It's almost like e-ink. I've never had my displays overly-bright or overly-saturated, preferring a more natural looking image that's close to a good ISF calibration.

Yes I mean I feel the iPhone X display is more brighter, but are the colours more vibrant than the iPhone 8, 8+, I don't know !!

I held my X and an 8 side by side, and honestly didn't notice any real difference other than the higher PPI of the OLED, and a bit better (but not totally blown away better) black levels.

I was disappointed that I wasn't blown away by the color of the X, the colors were as washed out/accurate as everything else Apple makes and identical to my 8 since they use the same P3 gamut. I realize it's more accurate that way, but a saturation bump without being cartoonish certainly would've been welcomed IMO.

It was a let down not just for the X, but more so what it means for all future OLED Apple products - OLED isn't going to bring us more vivid colors as long as its in an Apple product, which was kind of disappointing.

Are you one of those guys who sets their TV on vivid mode where everything looks cartoonish and none of the colors are accurate? I'm not trying to single you out, it's actually pretty common thing I see.

Note that I said a saturation bump without being cartoonish would be nice.

Ever seen an iPhone 6? It was more saturated than any phone since, 8 and X included, and it didn't look cartoonish. It looked gorgeous. I remember replacing my 6 with an SE and being really disappointed with the screen when compared side by side (which I expected). Imagine my reaction when I got my 8, expecting it to be better than my 6, and putting it side by side with my SE it was replacing and realizing it was much more similar to the SE than not, meaning it was considerably more dull than my 3 year older 6 was.

Don't get me wrong, the 8 and X are nice, but the colors simply put, are sort of flat. Not SE flat, but not that much greater either.

Yes, it is like night and day. The color difference will wow you. Especially with HDR content.

I don’t agree. Better screen yes for sure. Wow you well I feel the iPhone 8+ screen is already really good. I personally use both phones and the X didn’t blow me away - I thought Retina display at the time was a bigger leap forward.

End result both screens are very good.

I have an iPhone 8, an X and iPad Pro 10.7. I just compared them all together and I really don't see much difference with the exception that the X is bigger and a little brighter than the 8. The color looked pretty much the same to me on all 3. The photo I used was a wallpaper optimized for the iPhone X. Video may be different.

Yeah but you're not even referencing HDR. The general display when looking at the home screen is going to be similar, except for the much better black. But HDR sets it apart and there is no comparison between them at that point. The 8 has a fine LCD display, probably the best LCD that exists. iPhone X is just better.

I have an 8+, and on its own the screen is very nice. But i tested the X for the first time yesterday at Bestbuy, and wow that screen is amazing. best part about the phone.

So i compared it to my 8+, turned the brightness to max, and it was still night and day difference.

I agree that it's better to make an assessment with side-by-side comparisons, that way you can physically see the differences with different settings. Having owned both iPhones, and using them separately, sometimes it's harder to gauge which display had the strongest attributes.

It is a little disheartening that Apple will not bring the Amoled Display on next year's iPad after bringing it on the iPhone X !

my wife has the 8 plus, i have the X
i bought my parents regular 7 phones right before the 8 came out. My sister has the 6s.

I have to say that the 8 plus and the X look very, very similar. Apart from the deeper blacks (which isn't immediately noticeable, I guess unless you watch movies with black bars at night), I would say the screens are actually on par.

The 7 screens are a step below but simply due to the resolution. and the 6s is a bigger, more noticeable step below in terms of eveness of screen and saturation.

I'm not sure amoled is the best option for larger screens. I think it would kill battery life.
Also, if you've used the latest pro displays, theyre actually very very good already!

Its not very wise to listen fanboys about subjective opinions on the object you are planing to buy. Especially if the cost is 1000€.

Having had all three of these devices at the same time I can say that the 10.5 inch iPad is the best of them all. Then probably comes the iPhone X and then the 8’s. The scrolling and use if the iPad is just so good and it isn’t yet rep,I acted yet even by the iPhone X.

The difference between the iPhone X and 8 is really negligible. Colors and blacks are a bit better on the iPhone X but it’s not that much at all and one has to really look and have the right content to see it. Frankly I think scrolling and cinsuming non image based content in the iPhone 8 is Better than the iPhone X.

I don’t expect to see an OLED ipad model next year at all. Probably two years out at best. Price and yield on larger high quality OLED screens is still high and poor.

The other thing is TrueTone. It's MUCH better currently on the ipad 10.5", and not on the iphone X. Sure, I think apple can adjust it on the iphone X with software and possibly in future hardware, but the TrueTone implimenation on the ipad 10.5 just seems much more realistic and pleasing (subjective of course) than on the iphone x, where I constantly wanted to turn it off to bring bit more vibrance to the display.

The pro screen is one of the best screens iv ever seen. It’ll be improved this year so no need to worry.

You have to consider the manufacturing constraints and yield issues with OLED. It's not that Apple doesn't want to offer OLED in the iPad, it's that they are restricted and likely limited with OLED suppliers for specific panels for the iPad. Samsung and LG are the main two OLED suppliers currently.

Frankly speaking I am totally blown away with the screen and display of the iPhone X and after reading Ming Chi Kuo's latest findings that Apple may bring the Face Id and home button less display to the iPad Pro next year the only thing that will be missing from it would be the iPhone X like OLED Display. C'mon Apple you gotta make us Happy !!

Personally, I like the LCD technology and overall I think it produces a better product for a phone. Yet I understand the industry is moving in that direction and one of the few hold outs (Apple) finally is embracing it.

There are advantages to OLED and I see why Apple has and Kudos to Apple in ensure the phone's color is calibrated and more realistic then what others have done. I'm hoping they also put a lot of time and energy into ensuring the display doesn't burn in, but only time will tell in that aspect.
