I recently upgraded to an 8+ from my old iphone 6, but I can't seem to air drop and filed onto my macbook air anymore.

I tried troubleshooting the issue (bluetooth on, receive from everyone, hotspot off. etc.) With no avail.

Anyone have any ideas?

Quick update:
I think it's my bluetooth on my iphone as I can't connect to my other devices like earphones/headphones.

My iPhone 7 isn't working at all. Running iOS 11/ 0.1

My iPad on 10.3 is working flawlessly with my High Sierra

So I thought I finally fixed it after performing a phone a Rest (content and settings).
And now it's back to not working. But my air can still detect and even connect to my iphone via bluetooth.

When I launch Safari on my phone, my air also detects it. Just can't get air drop to recognize either device. :(

I think they changed something. I cant airdrop from iPhone 8 Plus to El Capitan macs or iphones running ios9. However, non ios11 devices (i.e not originally shipped with ios11) like iPad Air 2 despite running on ios11 work fine

It works ok with ios10 and Sierra

I’m on an 8+ and my AirDrop doesn’t work either. For me, when I updated, my restrictions were turned on even though I’ve never initiated that function in the past. I have no idea what the code is, but it looks like my AirDrop is disabled behind this restrictions function. Check your restrictions under Settings >General >restrictions. This article references this bug:

This particular article references the iPad, but if you google, you’ll see it applies to iphones too.

Didn't work for me, I believe I already tried this from previous google searches.
Though it is nice to know that I'm not the only one affected :/

Strange. I’m visiting my sister and her 7+ will show up in my AirDrop registry and she sees me. She’s running 10.3.3. Her husband’s 7+ will show up running 11.1 and he sees me. Wife’s 7+ is running 11.1 but will not show up nor see my phone. Set to accept everyone. I have an 8+ running 11.1

I have had air drop set to accept everyone on both ends and still doesn't work.
I'm going to assume it's my mac, since I was able to airdrop with another iphone 8.
well, back to emailing photos I suppose.

I had the same problem with my new iphone 8+, and after several hours on the phone with AppleCare attempting to reinstall OS on phone, I went into Apple Genius Bar with the phone and my computer. We tried it there with my computer and an erased phone to see if it was a corrupted phone, this did not work. Got a new iphone 8+- tried it again... no luck. So...they broke out the triage unit (literally what they call it) and tried using it on my computer to see if it was my computer or the OS. They tested my phone and other instore sample models with this to see if it was my back up corrupted-or just the actual 8+. Turns out- the iphone 8+ is not compatible with El Capitan. They determined this by trying Sierra with triage on my computer-it worked with the 8+ -both with back up and instore sample model, but the triage El Capitan did not work with any 8+ at all.

I may update to Sierra (will have to buy new software or use monthly sub. cloud software with some-so not too attractive) OR may just sacrifice Airdrop.
We will see.
I should add that both my ipad 5 (current updated OS) and iphone SE work fine with the computer- it is something about the actual 8+ -not the 8+ OS-apparently. I would guess any model after the 7 is going to have these same problems.

I don't think Apple is really aware of this problem, as everyone working there was baffled by this issue. I am hoping they do an update that will address this, but not sure if that is realistic.

Thanks for confirming!
Had the same solution, but it temporarily worked for me with El capitan after a reset, but then didn't work again after another update....
I'm contemplating upgrading as well, but I'd prefer if Apple could just fix this...
