iPhone 8 auto lock intermittently not working

This is an intermittent issue, becoming worse. The auto lock screen on my iPhone 8 sometimes does not work by itself. I find more and more often, I have to actually push the on/off button. It does not auto lock automatically. Sometimes changing the time will work, but the "fix" is not lasting. Changing the time, when it does work, only works if I first go to the lock screen by pushing the on/off button. Next time I wake up the phone after that, then auto lock will work correctly. Until it doesn't. Turning the phone off and back on also provides a temporary "fix".

I've already submitted a bug report to Apple.

I am using iOS 11.0.3.
