So my iPhone 8, Is almost 3 months old, and battery is already on 94%.
Week ago It was on 96%.

The crazy thing is my iPhone 6 Plus is 4 years old and at 86% on the original battery. Recently upgraded to the 8 Plus about 4 days ago.

I came from a 6s plus, 6 plus to 8 plus must’ve felt like a big leap?

Massive. It feels like another phone, even if it’s the same basic shape. I went with silver white this time from a space gray 6+.

Do you know where I can find a summary of what the 8+ can do that the 6 plus can’t?

Do you run the phone mostly on battery all day? If you are near a power source, do you use it to top off your phone? If you answered yes and no to these questions, then you are unfortunately killing (over cycling) your battery. My motto is use your phone as usual, but if near a power source plug it in. Nightime, turn on airplane mode without power. I have a Dec 2016 SE with 100% and a Mar 2018 8 with 100% battery hearth doing it this way. My .02.

Who wants to stay plugged in all day? If you’re at work at a desk then sure. But to keep your phone plugged in at home isn’t really convenient.

If someone uses their phone like a madman for a year and a half and needs a new battery for $50, did the person who religiously kept theirs plugged in really benefit in the long run? I used to have battery ocd due to android phones having suspect battery life and bad drain. I would have 2-3 battery apps at one time. I would keep my phone between 40-80, and had an alarm that went off when it hit 80%. Looking back, it wasn’t worth it. I keep my phone charged overnight and I have a battery case plus a charger in my car for an emergency. I’m sure I could extend the lifespan of the battery using the knowledge I have on lithium ion, but it’s jusy not worth it to me anymore. I know battery paranoia is real, so I wouldnt judge anyone who partakes in it. Just my 2 cents that once you stop worrying about it, it’s much more relaxing. If a bad battery meant a new phone then I totally get it. Even the most abused iPhone battery will last 12-18 months. $50 every year and a half on a new battery seems like a small price to pay. Not many people keep their phones longer than 3 years, so you can use the hell out of your phone for 3 years and only need 1 replacement battery. That’s my plan, but I know I’ll move on from my phone before my battery has degraded enough to bug me.

I don't worry about my battery use either. But, I think the simple advice I gave is necessary to reduce battery cycles (which keeps the health up). It has worked for me. What kills an iPhone battery, is using all day till near empty and recharging it back to full and repeating. The battery cycles add up very quickly.

If you start the day at 100%, use it till 50% at 12PM, charge it back to 100% and use it till 50% at the end of the day, that’s still a cycle.

You’re right in that it not emptying the battery every single day is better for the phone, however.
