Am I expecting too much from this phone, the battery life just seems really "meh". My phone was at 10% by 3PM yesterday,

I'd been up at 7AM, been on the train (variable signal), quite a bit of Snapchat but no YouTube, etc. Spent most of the day in London with excellent signal, so just seems really disappointing.

Most people, myself included, seem to enjoy very good battery life on the 8 Plus. I usually have no problem getting through two full days or more before I'm below 20%. But a lot of factors determine how fast the battery drains.

Hi,

Sorry - I am referring to the 8 as opposed to the 8 Plus :)

Plus is a different animal indeed and has been so ever since they became available. The regular size, on the other hand, could use some improvement in that area. I wouldn’t go as far as call my 8’s battery life trash, but it’s definitely nothing impressive. I’ve long ago developed a habit of topping it up at almost every opportunity I get because otherwise I end up looking at the battery saver warning at the most inconvenient time.

I just wish there was a model that’s not as wide as the Plus but more in the region of the regular size but just a bit thicker to accomodate a battery with Android-grade mAh counts. That battery combined with iOS energy efficiency would last quite a while, but of course it’s not going to happen as Jony wouldn’t be able to shave with the phone anymore.

Varying signal strength can drain a battery faster.

Sure but I lost 30% in an hour one day, admittedly yesterday it was only around 15%. But I went on Airplane mode on the Underground for instance, turned WiFi and Bluetooth off, etc. and the battery was still dead by about 4PM.

If I have to change my habits, the battery life to me is trash. It's literally the same as my SE was.

I hear the X is much better, anyone have any experience?

iPhone 8 should get you 7-8+ hrs of usage without any optimisation. The X should give 1-2 hrs more. The Plus probably an additional 1-2 hours over the X. The SE will find it hard to get more than 7 hrs.

I am literally getting nowhere close to that...and definitely didn't get that on the SE either.

7-8 hours of continuous usage? As in SOT? I can't believe that, sorry.

SOT may be like 20-30% less than that. When I say usage, I refer to usage as reported by iOS including background usage.

But if you're watching Netflix at 40% brightness and full volume on your speakers, the iPhone 8/SE should both get at least 5-6 hours I guess.
[doublepost=1527366753][/doublepost]on wifi, not on lte.

Did you check settings > battery to see what apps are using the most battery?

Did you set the phone up as new or from backup?

With heavy usage on LTE 6 hrs is normal for an 8. For an SE probably 5 hrs.

Don't expect much out of the iPhone 8's 1,821mAh battery for that screen size. More typical battery size for that screen size is 2,800mAh.

From a backup.

It's Spotify in the background and Snapchat but under 10% for both.
I’d also suggest always closing those apps. Apps like that always have background usage regardless if you have background app refresh turned off.
