Anyone think The iPhone 8 will have Bluetooth 5.0?

Good question. If it does have 5.0, will the AirPods be compatible? If the AirPods would not be compatible with 5.0, then I would say no. Only because the AirPods are in tandem with the iPhone and Apple would ultimately be put in a bad situation if they were not compatible.

I would say yes. This is because:

1) Competitors are now using Bluetooth 5.
2) Apple is a member of the Bluetooth SIG and so they helped develop the technology.

Yes, newer bluetooth standards are always backwards compatible with earlier versions so it will work fine with AirPods. I would say it's pretty much certain that the new iPhone models released in the fall will have bluetooth 5.

Good to know. Thanks.

Airpods will work with the W1 chip inside the new phone, or rather a new W2 chip along with BT 5.0 - or I am really hoping for 5.0!
