I’m currently using an iPhone 8 256gb battery health 100%, I had to update it to iOS 16.6 public beta so I could do a data transfer from previous iPhone.

This is only a temporary device for a month or two, however it does seem to be overly laggy and tends to get warm/hot pretty easily. The battery can drop significantly fast at times.

App opening seems much slower compared to an iPhone 8 Plus on iOS 16 despite having the same processor.

Is it just a case of this is how the old 8 runs on iOS 16 and I just have to put up with it? Or is there anything I can do, I’ve tried the power off and on, soft reset with no luck

The only suggestion I can think of is to try it out without the backup to determine if it’s the OS or your backup.

I’m guessing that’s not a possibility since you said you’re using this device just for the backup.

Yeah this is just a backup device, all data was transferred across from my old iPhone.

The photos app seems to be doing lots of background activity in the last few days since the swap, this could possibly be the reason?

you are aware that you are running a beta right ? So with betas you will run into issues and bugs beta are not ment to be run has daily driver unless you no the risk and never on your main device using I would downgrade to iOS 16.5

Yeah sure I know the risks & betas can be unstable with bugs etc I also have an 8 plus which is performing well on iOS 16.6 beta. Perhaps the the extra 1gb of ram as it’s less laggy and prone to warming up?

the extra 1GB of ram dos help keep in mind that It might be cut off for the iPhone 8 models with IOS 17

Is the iPhone 8 series getting iOS 17? Hopefully the next 16 beta will address some of the issues I’m having. If not then I’ll just have to get on with it lol this iPhone 8 isn’t forever 😃

Sounds like it. On macs, it uses a mega ton of power and sometimes get stuck. You're probably seeing the same thing. The faces thing is such a resource intensive process.

It’s taking ages to sync all photos to device and iCloud. About 12,000 photos lol hopefully once that’s complete the device will settle down with less battery drain

One way you could check would be to open the photos app and just watch it for a while. If 'new' photos seem to be appearing (or white squares filling in) then you know the app is busy downloading your photos.

I went through that last year when I bought an iCloud sub and it took my devices a while. But I have about half the photos you do and my activity was done in a few hours.

There is a lot of black squares with a small cloud ☁️ in them. It’s still syncing the photo library so will wait and see how it is after that’s finished

I’ve had an 8 plus running iOS 16 just fine, but the smaller 8 I have now gets hot quickly and drains battery! Sometimes the screen dims due to temperature lol

I’ve never seen the 300% scale on here before lol surprisingly the battery health is 100%! I doubt it will stay that way for long

"apple slowing devices once again" ffs, it is a beta.....and the reasons why some devices were "slowing down" has been established ages ago.

Stop this conspiracy *****, it just triggers people that love to rant about things they can't spend a minute on understanding spreading stupidities.

I just love how the word shi*e got censored automatically 😂
