More of a hope/suggestion than anything else.

i always bemoaned the lack of permanent visual alerts on iPhones (led alerts as on Blackberrys and most Android phones).

Of course, there's the screen lighting up and possibly vibrations or even the flash on the back but its not the same as an alert permanently visible on the front of the smartphone.

So, since the OLED screen only draws power on the non fully black pixels, i was wondering if Apple could implement a permanent alert on a small part of the screen , maybe a blinking circle above the virtual home screen button?

That has been the thinking for a while now. Although it will most likely be an Apple solution, versus blinky/flashy lights.

Hopefully Apple gives this to us. But no one knows for sure.

Nice idea. But Apple have to find a way to prevent screen burn-ins on an OLED panel then. So I think the notification can not be on one spot all the time.

I don't see this happening. But leave it to Apple to come up some clever way to utilize OLED technology. But I sure would appreciate having some sort of minimal notification without having the power on the whole display.

Motorola has a good solution called active display to have notification's on screen all of the time at a very low brightness, & a simple case of having them shift about abit would stop burn in of any kind.

This solution is better than having to pick your phone up all of the time to look see if you have any messages, miss calls ect like we currently do with the iPhone.
