iPhone 8 or Note 8?

Not sure what you mean? Battery life was pretty self explanatory. I get a lot better battery life on my 8+ than my N8 in my everyday use.
My overall user experience is better on my 8+. From unlocking it using the FPS to all around general use.....I like the 8+ better to be honest. The design is better and overall ergonomics and ease of use are better on my 8+ than my N8.

Agreed about the design. Wish they gave it a better screen. Even though the 8 plus is a 4 year old design it is still a good one. Posts like these make me miss my iPhone 7 plus. Should of kept it. Just traveling I hated to be dealing with the headphone jack adapter and the battery life was bad too. Charging my iPhone 3 times in one day was the end. When you use the iPhone heavy it doesn't last near as long as the note 8.

The N8 shape and FPS make it kinda hard to use. It is just too narrow for me and feels crowded when i am typing on it.

That's understandable I guess. I use SwiftKey and typing with 2 hands in portrait isn't much of an issue. I just really like using the phone one handed. So I swipe. Gives me a lot of the speed of two handed typing with the comfort of one handed use.

Then to be honest....all these speed tests and benchmarks don't mean squat. I don't judge phones by those things. They are useless when to comes to user experience.

Yeah...I don't understand the speed-test or benchmark thing to be honest. They do not correlate to a better user experience. They don't enhance existing features. No one will notice when using their phones that another phone is a couple seconds slower or faster.

Videos don't lie. There are many that show it. The iPhone 8 plus can't touch the note 8 in battery life. Only standby time.

I mean if you're talking about, "I use my phone to watch a video for however many hours straight" or whatever their testing method is then that's fine. But I'm telling you that with my Note 8 I'd be at 80-85% by lunch time at work while I'll be at 90-95% with my iP8+ at the same time with the same usage. Standby is definitely a factor for 90% of people who aren't literally just on their phone constantly all day. I don't have a horse in this race so I'm not trying to offend anyone - the N8 is awesome in many ways, but for normal mixed usage, I don't believe anyone if they say the N8 has better battery life if they've actually used both phones.

I don't usually watch these videos, I don't know what they're supposed to correlate to. And what are the testing conditions? Are both phones new out of the box? If not, how long has one been used vs the other? Are they testing from a direct factory reset on both? Battery seems to get better over time with some phones vs others. Etc, etc, etc. These videos are a waste of time and prove nothing.

Beyond that, I enjoy conversation comparing and contrasting *experiences* with devices but trying to objectively prove one is better than the other is another waste of time. They aren't. iOS and Android do similar things but take different routes at getting there. You mentioned your 8 Plus is smoother or faster than your N8, that's been my experience too. But that doesn't mean I find the Note 8 slow or unimpressive. It's hands down my fav phone of the year.

You're absolutely right. But around 70% -60% the drain between the two will even themselves out. There is plenty of comparison battery drain tests to verify this on Youtube. The iPhone battery percentage seems to show slower drain at the top end, but will end up draining faster overall. You have to ask yourself why the iPhone is the only phone that seems to stay on in the upper 90s for such a longer time during usage.

I don't have the iP8 or 8+. But I have the 7+ and the Note 8, and always had iPhones and Android phones. This is something I've noticed for years.

I would guess that it would be very difficult to configure all your apps and settings in two dissimilar phones the same. The battery life on both is not bad. If one is bettering the other for you, its possible that someone else could have the opposite just because of how they have their settings configured, launcher used, heck... even the brightness setting you used could have a huge impact on it. So I don't pay a lot of attention to pissing contests between two similar phones. If one was 50% more than the other, I'd pay attention. I had a 6S+ before the Note 8, and they aren't hugely different. The 6S+ had definitely lost some life over the years, but comparing new to new... very similar.

Phones arena tested it as well as well as the note 8, they seem to get much different results than random YouTube videos.

I know after some iOS update my battery life drastically went down on my 2 month old 7 plus. I went from 60 or 70 % when I went home from work at 5 to 40 or so %. My note 8 I am. Around 60% usually. The iPhone would put me in the red by the evening and the note would still have around 30% left when I go to bed. I don't use that phone a lot at work either. So it is idling a lot.

Agree, which is why the random battery tests are somewhat to be taken with a grain of salt. The LTE signal strength in each location can impact battery life a lot. And I have a watch with each... so notifications and functions there will impact too.

For sure, man. I never said the Note 8 had bad battery life, I just personally end the day with more juice on my 8+ with the same apps and usage. I originally responded because a guy said the Note 8 is astronomically better in regards to battery life as it will have 40% left when the 8+ is totally dead and that was just not accurate at all in terms of real life usage.

Again, if your real life usage is having your phone lit up at 100% with the screen never turning off then I have conceded that according to those tests then yes that is correct. Especially gaming/benchmarking as it's like comparing an i3 CPU and 1050Ti to an i7 and 1070 - you'll end up burning through more power but for better performance when the SoC and GPU are really being pushed. However, if you use a phone like a "normal" person then you'll get vastly different results.

i agree with you. I don't think those tests simulate real life uses. Then they don't take in the iPhone standby times....which is where it really shines to be honest.
Then i don't think one can judge until they have used BOTH phones.

I'm not sure man. I never said it is much better than the 7+, but literally since the "Plus" iterations of iPhones have come out, most reviewers who use their phone normally day-to-day mention its absolutely stellar battery life. My personal experiences have mirrored those sentiments. Again, I have no horse in this race - I have never said, "iPhone 8 plus is way better you should get that instead of the Note 8!" or anything like that - I think whatever phone you decide on really weighs on your personal workflow and needs and I think both phones are absolutely great overall with some compromises on either side. However, my personal experience has the Note 8 lagging slightly behind the iP8+ in terms of battery life - as in I would be getting down to 5% or below and be forced to plug in before the end of the night while I'm in bed and browsing/watching YouTube/texting. I just haven't had that issue with the iPhone. YMMV but those videos are not indicative of how 95% of people use their phones regularly throughout the day.

The newer generation processor has some battery saving features built into it. Just like the newer generation SnapDragon processors have as well. The newer OS has battery saving features as well.......Just like every Android new gen OS does too.
Then those tests don't simulate real time usage. If you put a lot of weight into the battery tests.....then what about benchmarks? Doesn't the new A chip A10 blow the new SD processor away by a large margin?
So does that mean the iPhone 8 is that much faster than the Note 8?
I myself do not put much weight in benchmarks or battery tests.....

People forget that every phone isn't going to be the best in every category. I've already said that the Plus models are known to be in battery life. I don't need random tests to tell me different. I get 20 hours of use and 6 and a half in SOT on the average day with my Note 8 before I put in on a charger at under 30%. I'm more than happy with that. Some people on this sub forget that they are the extreme minority who goes through phones like corn flakes. I keep mine for 2 years. I do my research and I buy the best phone for my use case and stock with it. So cares if the 8+ has better battery life if the phone you have is already so good?
