I noticed the GPS on the iPhone 8 is not very accurate. If I open the maps app or google maps the location is off quite a bit and constantly moving around even when I’m standing still. If I open Motion X gps is shows the accuracy at 39 feet. I get the same results on my daughters 8 plus. When I compare it to my old 6s Motion x shows the accuracy at 16 feet.

I noticed this today day.
I use Google maps on my 8 Plus on my commute.. mainly for traffic news.
Whilst in traffic I noticed the GPS was all over the place.
I really hope it’s a software issue!

I haven't had issues, however a family member that I gave my 7+ to has reported GPS issues, I hadn't had any but hadn't used it with IOS 11 so I suspect it might be the issue.

Both Google maps and Apple map are doing just fine. Spot on my iphone 8+ using 11.0.3 if that has anything to do with it. iPad Pro 12.9 inch is using 11.1 and this is spot on as well.

May be one of the satelite networks being very off due to low signal in your region and each update from it is given too much weight cauing it to jump on each update. Or a bug in combining GPS, Glonass and Galileo signals, Galileo support is new and im not sure it covers the whole world with enough satelites yet.

Do you have any location/system/settings turned off?

FWIW.. I disable quite a few things like location history, targeted ads..non-essential stuff.

Just carried out some more testing.. the GPS seems accurate when I am stationary (even in buildings).

The erratic behavior (not very frequent/common must be said) occurs when I am moving at speeds below 30mph in my car. The GPS will sometimes place me on an adjacent road to the one I am actually using for example.

Anyway.. I live in a very urban area of the UK so I hope the issue is not coverage.. although you have a point about Galileo being relatively new adoption.

Out here in the CA desert my GPS signal is pretty good but when I'm in between tall buildings in Kentucky GPS can go nuts sometimes.

I've used Waze a few times since I've got my 8+ and it seems normally accurate like my 6s+ if not better. I like that it doesn't get as hot as my 6s+ did while doing Waze.

I use heavy GPS for travel with the 8 Plus, and its been very solid in terms of accuracy for me.

I'm using a 6S, and there have been many times when I use Apples Map GPS, it'll say "your location is on your left", and while I'm looking to the left to find it, I end up passing it right by, because it was on my right! Other than that, it works well!

I play Ingress (a location based game) quite often afoot and GPS has been very inaccurate ever since installing 11.2.1 on my 8 Plus.
It seems to me, that the position does not get updated as often as it used to on my 6s Plus. Funny thing is, that I mostly play Ingress in open areas, so no buildings around me and since it's winter in europe there are also no leaves on the trees, so that can't be the issue either. Sometimes my position is off by 50 meters. Other times I keep walking but the position remains locked as if I wasn't moving at all. This is very annoying and it also happens in Apple Maps, Google Maps and all the other apps that use GPS. At times it helps to enable & disable flight mode but this is not a convenient nor a reliable fix because at other times this does not help at all.
Worst thing is when I'm in my car or on my bike that Google Maps suddenly recalculates my route because it thinks that I am driving on another road.
AppleCare says they haven't heard of this problem.
