Hello.
So, I am getting used to the Iphone 8 Plus and so far I am loving it despite some minor issues. I have always used Android, my last 3 smartphones have been Android. I decided to make the switch to Iphone after seeing my wifes 6 and my sister in laws 7 Plus. I love Siri, she is so helpful. I used Itunes to load music onto my Iphone. Despite not using iTunes since 2004 when I used to use my ipod for the gym, it came back to me pretty quick as to how to use it. I swear the music sounds clearer and better than any android media player I ever used. As we all know the camera on the new Iphone is mind blowingly awesome. The iOS is smoother than fresh jar of Skippy. So far, no regrets on changing to Iphone.

Here is my question. How many connections and disconnections is the Lighting Cable port certified for?

When is the earpiece crackling going to be fixed?

I don't think Apple would ever release a number for something like this. I have friends who have phones 4 years with no issues. You also have the luxury of wireless charging if you are concerned.

Excellent point, I had not considered wireless charging. The charging pads are kinda of expensive though arent they? I also like to use external battery packs, so I need the lighting port to hold up. I had something weird happen the first time I plugged it in. I swear the lighting cable was all the way secured into the phone and the adapter. I plugged it in and it wouldnt charge. I tried a different outlet and still wouldnt charge. So I took the lighting cable out, disconnected adapter and then put it all back together and then it charged no issue. So, now with my OCD that I suffer from I am afraid I somehow damaged the port.

I don't think anyone has really rated it because generally the lightning port will outlast the usefulness of the phone. I've had multiple phones with lightning ports and never once had a single problem - with the port, anyway. Apple charging cables are a different story ;)

Also, you brought up something that is very seldom discussed in the forever-long iPhone/Android debate - audio quality. I had a Note 3 for like, 6 months, and that was one thing I immediately noticed. Audio quality/clarity wasn't even close to being in the same league as iPhone.

You can get wireless chargers for less than $20 nowadays on places like Amazon. If you do have issues with the charging port over time, try cleaning it out. This has caused my phone to stop charging in the past because it was so full of lint.

The audio quality is night and day better on the Iphone. I was amazed at how good my music sounds now.

If your referring to stereo speakers, they are excellent. The iPhone 8 has 25% louder speakers over the iPhone 7. I use mine for Speaker calls and I can hear the other person clear across a room when talking.

Well yes, the speakers are very good. I just meant how good the music sounds. I plug it into my aux cable in my car using the headphone adapator and the music sounds really good.

No way Apple will give you a number as then they would have to warrant against it. For reference I still have an IP5 that functions 100 mechanically. Battery is having issues from repeated cycling, but the connector is still perfect. Bought it when initially released. Plugged in at least once a day, every day. My IP6 is still good to go. Same history. At least once a day.

Wireless charging is convenient... and will obviously save wear and tear on the lightning port over time. I got mine for $20 off Amazon.

I've had my 8 Plus for 10 days now... and have used the lightning port to charge once. Once. After going 2 days without a charge and I needed a quick charge before going to work.

Every other day I've come home from work and put it on the wireless charger and forgot about it. Later on in the evening the phone was 100% and ready for the next day.

I bought an Anker wireless charging pad for £13.99 on Amazon (mind you, this was before the 8s and 8+s came out, so they’ve shot up in price now). ;)

I was looking at that one. Anker makes good external battery packs. Do you really have to take the otterbox off to use wireless charging? That might be a deal breaker.

I don’t think I’ve ever known anyone who’s had their lightning port fail from overuse, and I know people still using an iPhone 5, the very first model to have a lightning port. So I really don’t think that this is something that one needs to worry about.

Why do you use the external battery packs? Is you phone battery not making through the day?

I use wireless just for the convenience.

IPhone is fine so far.
I have 3 external battery packs in various sizes from my lame old galaxy S5 which couldn't make it through the day. Jackery makes a real nice one, can be found on Amazon.

I understand. Just do not know why you would use them. The iPhone should get though a regular day and then some without using these e tern all batteries.

The new update has made my batter life less.
Any good pointers on how to conserve battery?
Things to turn off?
Tweeks to make?

A specific number? No way.

A guess? 10,000+.

I have never really read more than an occasional one off of a failure.

Does the new software update solve the earpiece crackling issue?
I saw that bogus thread about issues with the update and the poster is now suspended.
I am loving my new iphone 8 plus. I cant believe how much clearer the audio is compared to the my old Samsung Galaxy S5. One thing I also appreciate is the lack of bloatware. The android phone was loaded with bloatware. That is why I got into "rooting" my android phones. However that is risky as it can result in a bricked phone and it voids the warranty. My wife hated me rooting my phones to install a custom ROM on my android.

Yes, the crackling has been resolved for me in 11.0.2.

Apple has a lot of pluses!
