I just noticed this while watching a video. The bottom right corner of my screen has some kind of gap between the LED and the housing. the other corners don't seem to have it. it also leaks very intense light. Is this just part of how the LED screen works or is there some sort of deficiency in the sealing?

part of the LCD experience - light leakage. if it bothers you, get it replaced now whilst the replacement models are still new and not refurbished models.

its not really light leak. close up it actually looks like a cutout in the seal. anyone have an iphone 8 plus they can check and see if they have it ?

I just checked my 8+ and I have it on all four corners. That said, I can only see it when the brightness is up almost all the way and it can only be seen when looking at the phone perpendicular to my face. I can’t exactly tell the size of the gap of yours based on the picture but it seems like the gaps on mine are quite small

thats exactly the answer i was looking for. could you please load a white background and see if any particular corner is more intense than the rest? greatly appreciated.

It’s called backlight bleed.

its not light bleed.

i literally just said it has nothing to do with backlight bleed. and it still has absolutely nothing to do with backlight bleed.
I checked and all of them are about the same size/brightness. They’re quite small though, nothing more than a few pixels. You should probably try taking it back/check the floor models at the Apple store to compare the size

I ended up just keeping it because my screen has almost perfect uniformity otherwise and I didn’t want to replace it with a unit that could have potentially been worse

Yes, these are my thoughts too. I have the same leakage in the lower right corner of my normal 8, but the rest is perfect, so I can live with that.

Time for replacement

For what it's work, I have the 8 Plus and have the same thing on all four corners. I believe this is perfectly normal and would have not have noticed it had I not read this thread. Only seen when brightness is really high.

I say don't worry about it. Perfectly normal.

Just got myself a Honor 8 over the weekend. Perfectly even screen without any such artifcats in corners. Why can't apple do the same thing?

I have no idea. I would not call them artifacts either. I would expect any panel to have them. You have to literally turn up the brightness all the way up and then look closely for these spots where the corners meet to see it.

Huawei just copies the iPhone. Maybe, since they don't actually have to develop the design, they have more time to worry about solving these kinds of problems? Who knows...
