It depends. Both phones are excellent and pretty much the same with the exception of the screen. It mostly comes down to the size of the phone in your hand and if you want a mostly bezel less display.

I don't understand the appeal on those phones. cameras are great i bet, but so are the camera(s) on the 8 and 8 plus. and the 8 plus has two cameras. I'm not sold on the dual pixel tech. it's physically not possible for it to be better than the dual camera set up...
they're more expensive and the processor on the 8 is shown to be double the speed.
plus no doubt apple will support it for longer than Google will.

i don't find these phones to be reasonable alternatives to get you out of the iOS platform.

That’s fair. I am just talking presently available for iOS.

If you’re tech enough to be here then at some point you’re going to wish you had the X. Before everyone with an 8 trashes me, the 8 may be more logical for you but deep down inside you know you will wish for the “latest”.

You are willing to spend a grand or more for a phone, or pay $40 to $50 a month like most people will for the next three years? For a phone? That will be outdated by next year? Does not make sense to me. It’s a phone. Someone on another thread said at this point a smartphone is like a microwave. Just another appliance. Sounds about right.

I did get the 8 plus out of necessity, but I don’t see myself changing phones again for the foreseeable future. Bezeless is not that big a deal. All those talking like a bezel is ancient history, will buy the X because it is a status thing and feel a need to talk down everything else. At least that’s what it seems like on these forums.

You are definitely pushing that deep inside you wish you had the latest...rant. And you are wrong again. Those of us, including me who can afford the 8+ now, did not want the 10 at this time. It’s as simple as that. And no I’m not gonna wish deep inside I had the latest technology with the iPhone X. Give it a break

I don’t know, I am not sure I consider these just phones any longer. For some, me included, this is their main computer used for a whole list of things. For something you use every single day, it might be worth it for some to pay $40 a month for it. I am one of those people. You may not be. Both are just fine. In regards to the bezels, yes it’s a bit outdated as most phone makers are going towards bezel-less designs. It doesn’t make the 8 or prior a bad phone, just a bit dated from a design perspective.

Whatever, get the 8 and the first time it happens you’ll think of this post.

    And it will happen ;)

Oh and first time I remember mentioning deep inside you

I’m tech enough to still remember writing a BASIC program that used all the memory in my ZX81 clone without even trying

Oh, and assembly language on the C64 and Amiga. Good times indeed!

Nah. It’s not the X this year that I’m worried about wishing for. The only thing I feel like I’m missing out on is the OLED display. Thankfully, the display on my 2nd 8+ is darn near perfect (returned the first one). No, it’s the rumored plus sized X+1 model next year that worries me. I know I’ll be wishing for that model, especially if they manage to reduce or even remove (doubt it) the notch. That’s when I’ll regret getting the 8+. Unfortunately, it’s either that or suffering through a whole year of Safari happily reloading pages constantly and apps getting dropped from memory left and right because my old 6+ only has 1GB of RAM to work with. 2 gigs and I would have been able to keep it for another year without losing my mind. The 6+ is still surprisingly capable once something is present in memory. It’s the lack of memory and slow loading that makes it a dreadful experience at times.

No, I will not think of this post. I have the 8+ now, and as I told you I have the money for the 10 and I decided not to get it this time around because I don’t want to be a guinea pig on a brand new FaceID model, and it’s not the size that I want either. How old are you ?

Hey, as they always say. It depends. I moved from 7+ to X and recently to 8+. Don't get me wrong, the X is a fantastic device, but as a previous 6+ and 7+ user, the smaller screen takes some getting use to. It may be taller but everything is smaller (width) and I personally feel that iOS is just better optimised for the 7 and 8. If I had known what I know now, wouldn't have sold my 7 PLUS. The 8+ is nice but not worth the upgrade over the 7+. With the X, I found the FaceID frustrating as ride bikes (push/motor) a lot and having a fixed phone bracket is problematic. If I hadn't found a one month old 8+ for 30% off retail, would have got the 7+ again. Good luck in choice and my personal preferences aside, the 8, 8+ and X are all amazing devices.

    X. Screen, form factor, UI, camera, biometrics, everything is better.

When it comes to the camera there's absolutely no difference at all, I have both. Yes you have OIS on the second lens on the X, but seriously from my testing it's something I couldn't care less about.

One more thing, battery life is better in the plus. So everything is not better on the X.

Okay. Technically the camera is slightly better so we’ll leave that part at that. The Plus does best the X by 30 minutes so I guess if you need 11 hours vs 10.5, then yea the Plus is slightly better in one area.

I was just looking at Toms Guide as a reference. Otherwise it’s all depending on the individual. My X lasts longer than my 7 Plus did.

The battery on the X is good. The battery on iPhone 8 plus wouldn't die for me though, could go for three days with medium usage.

As @DNichter said, battery life is based on the individual. Apple can post whatever statistics and you can go by whatever numbers, but the most unregulated concept about an iPhone is battery life, because of one’s usage which will greatly vary between everybody.

Exactly. And like I mentioned I have both the X and iPhone 8 plus. And also like I mentioned I get more than 30min difference between the two with the same usage pattern.

Oh yeah. The 8 plus is the battery champ. I have the X and the 8 plus and the 8 plus is very hard to kill. It will easily last me 2 to 3 more hours than iPhone X with the same usage pattern.

If anyone asks me which one best for buying, I'll 100% suggest him to Buy Apple iPhone X because of the iPhone x better then iPhone 8 plus.

There are many options you can get in iPhone X just spending Some more money so always choose Apple iPhone X.

Both phones have rather huge trade offs I’d say. The 8 Plus is huge but if you don’t mind that it’s a solid phone. The X is new with many apps not yet optimised for its odd screen shape and costs a fortune. It’s devils advocate right now and to be honest neither would be considerations for me personally.

But with the applications, they’re becoming more optimized every single day for the iPhone X. I think some had way too many expectations thinking that developers should have had the apps updated within the first week, but many don’t realize it likely isn’t something that’s an overnight process and it’s improving all the time. Developers were in a situation where they have to optimize application specifically for the X, which is a process, It’s not something immediate like others were expecting.

I’m aware of that and had the same experience with the iPhone 5 when the screen was taller. I think a lot of developers held back with the X to see if was popular enough. It must be annoying developing two types of view when the vast majority of users will have standard iPhones for the foreseeable future.
