Ok, I will finally relent to all Apple Fan Boys... My HTC Android has seen it's day and 5 months ago my work issued me an iphone 6S which I'm "dreadfully ashamed" to say has been a pretty kick ass phone for many tasks. (I carry my separate personal phone which is a 4 year old HTC because my Company is Evil and can track any personal usage on this work issued Iphone 6s.) Pretty much settling the reason why I will not use my free work iphone 6s for anything personal. Not ever.

Of course I'm allowed to use it all I want! "The same way a man is given enough rope to hang himself is why I don't utilize it for personal use." The iphone 6s has somewhat impressed me despite the fact that I think Mac sucks at ultra high end gaming even worse than the PS4 which is just a child's toy. (Sorry, but sticking with my custom self built PC for valid purposes in regards to cutting edge gaming.) Please do not cry Fan boys, but my 4 grand Custom self built gaming desktop set up will smoke your 8K Mac desktop in every category... The details of why that is may be slightly beyond your tech knowledge, but that's not my fault.

For personal phone I'm torn between the Apples latest offerings. For example what do I gain in REAL hardware function and capability from the 8 Plus to the X??? I like a big high res cell phone screen along with the fastest and highest capacity storage and ripping fast hardware tech. So is it iphone 8 plus or this seldom seen and very elusive X model??? I don't care about the bling factor so if that's all the X offers please let me know. I'm not seeing much of a difference in my comparison research except aesthetics between the two models. PS: I Don't care about how good the camera is between the two phones because my Canon SLR will destroy any picture an Apple phone could ever hope to capture. I use my Canon for photos. Only kids get value out of phone pictures.
Regards.

X has front facing portrait mode.
X has dual OIS on the rear cameras.
X has animojis.

I believe those are the only differences. The X will be easier to hold because it is closer in body size to the 4.7” phones.

Otherwise, the 8 Plus has all the other modern bells and whistles.

Thanks:) Couple things there I did not know. Since I'm not really huge into a phones camera or capturing of video excellence than It seems I might be wasting money if I bought X model. Going with the 8 Plus. (A guy should get credit getting by sticking with a 4 year old HTC Android like me, but fully paid for was a nice thing.)

Sorry, wrong thread, back on topic..

Both the 8 and 8+ are great phones, I personally think the 8+ is impractical, but go with what you like. Go to the Apple store to try out both.

Ghost...

I think you'll be happier getting the new HTC C11 android. Otherwise, you might end up as a dreaded Fan Boy.

There is more than enough information on this site as well as Apple to research and make a decision

The 8+ has the same processor and same amount of ram as the X. Get the 8+ and you'll be very happy!
^ This. I was going to wait but ended up with the 8 Plus, mostly because I know there will be a long wait and once I realized that aside from the bezel and a few features I may not use much it's essentially the same thing. Still, FaceID seems like it will be a game changer and am looking forward to seeing how well it works out, just don't want to be a beta tester. The fingerprint sensor takes me less than a second to use, can't imagine how much more convenient we need it to be.

I would hold off on 8+ for now. Let’s see if the battery expanding issue gets quiet down first. Just go get a X or a mint conditioned 7+ with 128GB

Internet braggarts . Performance between 8+ and 10 will be the same. The details of why that is may be slightly beyond your tech knowledge, but that's not my problem. You don't care about camera, so it all comes down to aesthetics, OP.

while yes the 8 plus and the X renders at very similar resolutions (2.74 Megapixels), the 8 plus's pipeline downsamples to 1920x1080 as an extra step in the rendering pipeline. hence, there will be a performance cost there, albeit somewhat minor.

'the same' may not be accurate either in terms of battery life.

the OLED display will more likely consume more power than the 5.5" IPS display on the iPhone 8 plus.

Probably right, my response was more tongue in cheek in response to OP bringing / flaunting a $4000 gaming PC into an iPhone discussion. If people are truly on the fence the best thing to do is wait until side by side comparisons of actual use come out. No one knows yet for sure / how observable any difference will be.

i agree

i like how OP refers to a PS4 as a child toy... what does that make his $4000 PC? I guess a manchild toy? lol

And the 8 Plus has a better battery and bigger screen.
