I've had this phone for two months without issue. Today I turn on my phone and the home button feels weird. The haptic click is too forceful, too loud, is sometimes accompanied by a pop or a rapid series of two clicks, additionally the "system haptics" feedback is too forceful/loud as well. If I press it rapidly, I hear a squeaking sound coming from the home button. I haven't adjusted any settings recently. What is going on?

Has anyone had this happen before? I just want to make sure this won't be a recurring issue.

The only thing I can suggest would be to attempt a hard reset on the iPhone if there is some type of random glitch, otherwise this sounds more like a technical problem for Apple to deal with specifically in store for a possible repair or warranty replacement.
