iPhone 8 plus stuck in restore cycle

I stupidly said it was okay for itunes to do an update for my phone and now it's trapped in a lovely restore cycle where it won't let me do anything and keeps giving an "error(9)". Is there anything at all I can do other than to go straight to apple? I'd love to avoid having to set aside time to go see someone.

Put it in dfu restore mode.
If it still does the same then bring it in to Apple.
