I own an iPhone 8 Plus 256GB and I absolutely love it. It's the most perfect version of the classic iPhone design and it has the modern specs for it to be powerful. Wireless charging, TrueTone screen, high PPI LCD, wide color gamut, big battery, nice cameras, etc. The A11 chip is no slouch at all with running iOS 13 either--other than a few iOS 13 related "glitches" everything is still super super fast and almost instant.

I suggest sticking with the 8 Plus if you have PWM. Plus, there's something about holding a big bezel classic iPhone that you don't get with the newer models (newer models are damn awesome btw).

Although, I was always under the impression that the Pro Max has the same width screen?? Maybe I missed this and have my facts wrong. But yeah, 16:9 classic rectangle is awesome. No notch, Touch ID. It's great.

Same, i also love my 8 Plus 256 GB. Won't be upgrading until 2021 or even 2022, we will see. I only have my phone for a year now, not two. I picked the 8 Plus over the Xr last year, as i couldn't justify the price of the Xs Max 256 GB anymore. (Outright Payment).

After reading your "case" again, I think you should get the 11... it´s a new design so you´re going to feel the "new phone"; not for being the last one, just for changing the form factor after so many years.

It would sell better and faster next year when you upgrade to the 12, if you do it. And in case you don´t do it, you have a more future proof phone on hands.

I think you would miss the 2x, but you would like better the night mode and the battery life.

Well you know my journey as we've spoken before on the forum about this subject. I decided this week again to embrace the standard 11 having returned the Pro Max because I cannot use it due to PWM. My 7 plus is on end of life and I caved to the idea of having new and "sexy" with the all screen design of the 11. Like you I originally rejected the 11 due to the narrower screen and 828p resolution. But it's jammed with newer tech than the 8 plus so has more life ahead of it. Also considered was buying a 2019/2020 ipad pro in the near future so I didn't want to be stuck with an iPhone that was using the old design language and touch ID (even though I like touch ID).

I'm trying to adjust but it's not helped by the fact the back of the phone has a very slight sharp edge on the sides of bezel where it meets the glass. It's just enough to irritate my skin slightly, I'm so unlucky with the build quality lottery! Also having a glass back phone means I've either got to get a skin or thin case to avoid micro scratches which I'm not excited about. Negatives aside it's a very fast phone, you can quickly ignore the thicker bezels and notch. Battery is a champ. Speakers are great.

Spending too much time on this forum, watching many youtube reviews and being surrounded by people at work with new iPhones has polluted my vision with the 11 series design which does make the older iphones looked dated visually. But in use I do still prefer the 7 plus screen resolution, ratio and build. For a start it doesn't have a band design so no sharp edges!

I'm trying to convince myself to stick with the 11 because it's newer tech and design so will last longer than the alternative 8 plus which in my mind wouldn't feel like enough of an upgrade over my current phone in 2019. Also the 8 plus has the glass sandwich and band design so again potential build issues and fragile glass back.

A friend got me Apple staff discount so the price was right especially if next year's phone is great enough to get me to jump onboard, so any sale of the 11 in a year will have minimal loses financially. This was also a consideration with the 8 plus because in a year it will have a very low value due to its age.

But I can't stop thinking that I've been very happy with my 7 plus for the last 3 years so an 8 plus could do the same for another 3 years. Do I really need to force the change just because the new iPhones look shinier?

The shorter version:
If I could use Apples OLED I'd have the Pro Max no question.
The 11 is runners up prize.
I probably prefer the 7 plus/8 plus design.

Are you able to get two days out of the battery on the 11?

I had the iPhone 11.

What I loved:
Smaller width felt better in my hand.
Took amazing pictures.
Speakers were excellent.
The color, I had yellow. That color made me happy just to look at it
The iPhone 11 is fast.

I kept it past the return date. Then I realized something. I was using the iPhone less and less. That narrow screen was seriously bothering my eyes.

I had given away my iPhone 8 Plus.

And I ended up giving my new iPhone 11 to my son.

One surprising thing that I noticed:
I noticed it was easier to adjust to no home button than returning to the home button after using the swipe gestures.

What I love about my brand new iPhone 8 Plus:
The screen.
The width of the screen. I enjoy looking at the iPhone, watching video and reading.
I am back to using my iPhone again.
I feel happy with my decision, the iPhone feels classic and it feels like coming home. Happy sigh.

I think I would like the size of the iPhone Pro Max. I do not think I would like the OLED as I am sensitive to screens.

I hope this helps anyone in the same situation. That narrow screen on the iPhone 11 really bothered me. It bothered me so much that I gave the phone away.

There is a lot to love with the iPhone 11. That screen was just not for me. But, it is an excellent phone.

I never got 2 days out of the iPhone 11 battery. I always got one full day.

Apple will give me $300 for my 8+. I could probably get a bit more on swappa, but this is more convenient. I’m thinking about doing it, especially since this is supposedly the last lcd iPhone and the 8+ won’t be worth anything next year.

I’m going to bite the bullet and give the 11 and honest chance since pwm took the Pros away as an option for me. Keep me/us posted!!

My 11 will be here November 1-5. I’ll definitely update this thread. I REALLY hope apple can do like OnePlus and allow a dc dimming option. I WANT the pro max, but the 11 is the only phone that works for my head. I wouldn’t have gotten it yet, but considering this is probably the last lcd iPhone and the $300 trade in is decent (I could maybe get an extra $75 online after all is said and done) I went for it. $799 for a 128gb phone is a nice price, but I would have happily paid for a 256gb pro max. We’re in the same boat, so hopefully screen technology advances within the next few years because the 11 won’t be an option forever.

I can’t see the 8+ not being ‘worth anything next year’. I think it’ll hold decent value as it’s still a really good iPhone. There will be people keen to get the last of the home button and the phone itself will only be a 3 year old model. I can upgrade now but just can’t justify getting rid of my 8+ yet as it’s still as fast and fluid as the day I bought it. It does everything you’d expect from an iPhone and has no hardware issues that I know of. It’s a keeper for now IMO.

I guess I misspoke. I’ve sold so many phones on swappa and to be honest it gets tiring dealing with picky people. I’m just really after the wide angle and low light camera after trying my wife’s 11 pro. The 8+ is the best phone I’ve ever had, but I’m still looking to move on to something that has some more legs. I’m susceptible to pwm, so I can’t buy the pro max. If I could, it would have been a day 1 purchase.

I’m not bothered about OLED and the fact it carries the premium puts me off anyway. Not sure if I’m susceptible to pwm as never used an OLED phone long enough. I was tempted by the iPhone 11 now it has the dual camera but I really can’t see it being worth it over my 8+ yet, and I’d be trading for probably a similar experience.

The fact that 8+ has many pros over the new 11 just goes to show how good it is. I went from a new galaxy phone to the 8+ and loved it, even though most people would consider it a big downgrade. Either one works, which is pretty cool.

I agree with everything you've said about the 11's pros and cons.

I'm not driving my 11 full time as I have no case or skin yet and I'm still torn if I'll keep.

The 11 is fast, face ID is great for passwords, the speakers are loud and full. Also the battery is fantastic.

But the width and height of the screen are hard to adjust to. And for some reason the 11 feels heavier and fat. Also as good as the resolution is its not good enough and I'm feeling like I'm forcing myself to accept it. Text is not sharp enough at 100% scale and at 115% scale it’s worse. Text is softer and not as dark as the plus models, I can see the grey pixel edge. And having a longer screen makes constantly adjusting grip to use reachability a real chore which is hit and miss if I activate it correctly one handed.

Everytime I go back to my 7 plus I'm happier with the width of screen, width of keyboard, the resolution as I do alot of reading. The width of youtube video in portrait mode (I like to read the comments), etc. It really has me feeling like I should just do another year on the 7 plus...😔

But the speakers are trash on my 7 plus (especially when compared to the 11) and the battery life is not all day anymore. And even though I prefer touch ID for the constantly used reachability, it really sucks when it doesn't let me into the phone.

I really hate having to accept a glass back because it makes my hand sweat and there's an edge between the glass and band which I can feel. My 7 plus is smooth all the way round due to the aluminium back. So even if I keep 11 or try an 8 plus I'll have to deal with the glass, and I’m no fan of cases. And as tempting as it is to try an 8 plus I know I'll be back in the build quality lottery and I'm exhausted with trying to decide.

8+ is one of the least problematic phones Apple has ever made. I think the bigger issue for you would be the “been there, done that” feeling of going from a 7+. The 8+ is a step up in nearly every way, but it’s still the same form factor and feels exactly the same in your hand. I loved mine, but that’s probably because it was my first iPhone and I hadn’t been looking at it since the 6+ released and each phone looked identical to it. I knew it looked dated, but it was still new to me coming from galaxy phones. I can’t imagine owning a 6+,7+ and then 8+ and not feeling burned out.

I appreciate the 8 plus wouldn't be an exciting new upgrade like the Pro Max from the 7 plus, but I cannot use the OLED iPhones. As I'm not really enjoying the narrower feel and lower resolution of the 11, the 8 plus would at least give me a new battery, slightly better screen, better speakers, slightly newer processor. That said it might be better to stick with the 7 plus for the next 11 months. Just gotta double charge everyday and keep resetting the wifi.

I hope Apple are sorting out the issues with pwn for future users as it seems to affect a lot of people. I know of two people away from here who can’t use the OLED iPhones and it’s a common complaint on here. It obviously affects more people than we realise and this could be a problem if Apple ho purely to OLED without a solution.

The iPhone 8+ is a great device and if you can’t get it for a good price, I think the wireless charging, true tone, better processor etc are worthy features over the 7+. You could always get a new battery for your existing phone too?

I just was not enjoying the iPhone 11 and hence I was using it less and less.

I’ve done all I could to avoid starting this thread but I’m genuinely curious in others’ thoughts. I’ve been using the Pro Max and LOVE it. It’s all I’ve wanted in a phone, except, I do have pwm sensitivity to OLED. I could try to alter my use, or deal with periods of eye strain and eye aches but it does get old.

This is not about cost. I paid outright for the Pro Max without blinking. It’s not about value either. I’m just curious about the best remaining choice for the next 11 months. In my opinion:

My 8 Plus Pros: 401 ppi, 1080p, wide screen, videos natively fill the screen, jet black bezels border videos, wider keyboard, not tall and narrow, prefer 2x zoom.

11 Pros: Smart HDR camera, better low light photos, night mode, A13 processor, better speakers with spatial audio.

I don’t have a preference of Face ID vs Touch ID. Both have pros and cons. I prefer the camera on the 11 but prefer the 16:9 aspect ratio of the 8 plus with wider content that doesn’t seem narrow and stretched out. The font seems larger and bolder on the 8 Plus as well no matter how I try to tweak the 11. I take a ton of photos and highly value the camera but also look at my screen and type a lot. I’m not seeking advice per se on which to choose as I know I have to decide on my own. But if you have an opinion or perspective I’m curious to hear it. Sadly, I think my Pro Max must go back. And it sucks (first world, it’s just a phone, type of sucks). Thanks!

Its a simple answer, get the iPhone 11, their have been plenty of rumours claiming next year all new iPhones, 12 and 12 Pro, will get OLED screens. So if you want LCD AND you value the camera, get the 11, lots of reviews praising this years iPhone cameras both on the normal and Pro models.

In my own experience I had the 4.7” iPhone 8, and my iPhone XR camera is MUCH better than the 8 was.

The 8 Plus is the perfect iPhone. Glass back for wireless charging, A11, 3GB Ram, 1080p screen, huge beautiful screen, 256gb size , and Qualcomm modems makes it a goddamn steal. Best phone I've ever had. If they make an updated one I'll snag it in an instant, I don't really like the notch.
I’m not sure if this is what you’re asking but they did indeed “update“ the 8 plus. It now comes in a new 128gb version. At least you know if you buy one it will be a newly manufactured unit in 2019

I returned the iPhone 11 and went back to my 6s plus and glad that I did. The narrower width, Face ID and notch annoyed me. The better camera on the 11 was welcomed and faster chip but my 6s is still good enough.
The 6s plus just feels better in my hand. I will see what iPhone 12 has to offer next year

Face ID is fantastic and I’m neutral on the notch since I know it houses multiple technologies that are worthy. The thing that I definitely agree with you is that narrow width, typing, and the characters that weren’t as resolute or defined. Which is why I have the 11PM

If it had been 1080p I’d probably forgive/adjust to the narrow display. The more I use the 11 the more I like having all screen but the 7 plus feels better.

Well I’ll be damned. It turns out they discontinued the 256gb versions and replaced em with 128gb lmfao Apple is something else man 🤦‍♂️
