I'll keep this as short as possible so people read more than just the title, i am comparing the iphone 7 to iphone 8 (not the plus versions):

performance: Iphone 7 ios 10.3.3 vs Iphone 8 ios 11.0 :

- Iphone 8 opens some apps faster than 7, others slower. Iphone 8 boots faster. Iphone 8 has animation stutter using 3d touch (3d touching apps runs at 10 fps)
- overall, no visible difference to daily usage, except when editing videos using apple's photo app, where the 8 is faster at trimming videos (roughly 30% faster)

features:

-true-tone is nice, but completely unnecessary with night-shift already enabled at night.
-wireless charging and fast-charging haven't been tested, i don't want to spend the money on all the additional add-ons needed.

display:

- max brightness is a lot lower than the iphone7, it's difficult to use this device in the sun
- no other differences noticed

camera:

- slight adjustment of most colors, some look more real, some don't
- detail: almost no improvement compared to the 7
- no visible low-light performance improvements, except when in an almost pitch-black room.
- overall: small to no improvements to videos/photos

battery:

the same if not 1-2% worse than my 2 month old iphone 7 (it was replaced, that's why it's 2 months old and not 12)

overall: if you have an iphone 7, you won't really notice anything different, besides true-tone, which makes your device slightly more orange.

Don’t use max brightness, keep it on auto. It won’t hit the 625 nits unless it’s on auto brightness.

you're telling me ios 11 reduces maximum brightness on the iphone 8 unless i use auto brightness..? i'll test that out, sounds very weird.

edit: tested. makes no difference.

Straight forward review touching on the things that matter most with battery, camera and other features. Nice job.

Since you have the 7 and 8 how is the signal strenght compared between them? Does the glass back have an advantage in terms of transparency?

Pretty much how I felt when I played w/ it at the store. Didn't need more than 5 mins to say to myself, meh, pass.

Max brightness is just not a good idea for phone battery life period... having compared a 7 to an 8, I like the glass on the 8 much better than the 7 as far as the overall design, though it does add noticable weight, yet improves the feel. Strange tradeoff.

no one said it's good for battery life. but if you're walking outside for 10 minutes and need a bright screen, it sucks not having the option anymore on the 8

I agree the improvements to the 8 weren’t that great. The plus model and the regular model continue to branch apart with the plus model being better in almost every respect now

That's what Apple wants. They're going to put their latest technology into the larger, more expensive model. I think the only reason someone would go with a 4.7 inch iPhone, would be for the smaller form factor and they simply don't want a large 5.5 inch iPhone. For those who want more camera capabilities, larger battery and 1080 P display, then clearly the iPhone Plus would be the only option.

Well that’s me, I simply can’t stand that fat 5.5 inch phone

I want a 5,5 inch phone (read display), I just don't want an unnecessary (for 2017 standards) oversized body to carry in my pocket
