Hey all,

I just upgraded my internet to 300Mbps down and 20Mbps up yesterday. In preparation for this, I purchased a brand new dual band wireless AC router. Over WiFi on my MacBook Pro, I can pull north of 325 easily almost all the time. On my iPhone 8, I can barely hit 200 at all. Moreover, my brother-in-law stopped by yesterday and ran a Speedtest to the same server and he instantly pulled 300+ on multiple tests. He has a Galaxy S7 Active.

What gives? My wife’s iPhone 7 shows the same performance.

Thanks!!

The ookla app I presume? I just did a few tests on my 8 plus and pulled between 320 to 420 Mbps. I will borrow a Samsung Note 8 and see how it fares.

Did you do many tests and all are around 200? On 5 ghz?

I have my iPhone 8 locked to the 5Ghz band, just as I did the Galaxy S7A. I am using the Ookla Speedtest app on both devices.

Maybe try soft reset. Had several 8+ replacements and the 8 I have no issues hitting 400+ up and down.

[doublepost=1514571939][/doublepost]Ok, so this is strange. I checked my wife's iPhone 7 again, using the Speedtest.Net app, same server as my iPhone 8. Her phone went straight to 330Mbps down and 23Mbps up. I reset my network settings and restarted my iPhone 8. Once it came back on, I connected back to my 5Ghz network, opened the speed test app, selected the same server and ran the test. I only could get 150Mbps down and 20Mbps up. Immediately following, I repeated the same test on my wife's iPhone 7. Again, 330+Mbps down and 20+ up without any issues at all. I tried again on mine following the conclusion of her test, only to get the same poor results as before.

I have the AT&T iPhone 8. I bought her iPhone 7 as a factory unlocked model straight from Apple. She is also using it on AT&T. Could my poor wifi performance be attributed to the Intel modem in my i8 vs her Qualcomm modem in her i7?

I could handle -/+ 10-20Mbps on my i8. But we are talking about a 50% difference in speed tests, consistently.

UPDATE 2: I just reset my Linksys WRT1900AC completely. Thinking maybe there is something going on in the router somehow. Everything is back online now and I ran another speed test, using the same parameters as previous, to still only pull around 150Mbps down. Ran the test a few more times and concluded with the same results. Performed the test on my wife's iPhone 7 and immediately jumped to 325Mbps down. No clue what to do now.

Ok so I tested an iPhone 8 Plus (AT&T model) and it performed perfectly. Immediately to 300Mbps+ on the speed test. So I believe there is something messed up on my iPhone 8.

How new is 8?

My 8 plus was bought from AT&T so most likely has the same Intel modem and I have the same router, Linksys wrt 1900 AC dual band.

I would take some screenshots and then take the phone to the nearest Apple Store and see if they can figure something out. I hope they have good wifi on premise to test.

Long story short, I ended up acquiring a brand new iPhone 8 Plus for AT&T. WiFi is working perfect. I’m going to contact Apple about the 8. The closest Apple store is 4.5 hours away.
