I plan on purchasing a 64 GB iPhone 8 directly from the Apple Store by paying the full $699 at time of purchase. I am currently a Verizon customer, but on a prepaid plan with a flip phone. I will put the new phone on one of the regular postpaid plans at Verizon by taking it to my local Verizon store after purchase.

Both the Verizon model and the sim-free model are in stock at the Apple store. What are the advantages/disadvantages (if any) of purchasing the sim-free model vs. the Verizon model ?

Thanks.

None. They are essentially the same apart from the model number. Both are exactly the same. So there isn't any disadvantage to buying verizon over sim-free or sim-free over Verizon.

That was simple enough - thanks for the rapid answers! Guess I'll get the Verizon model.

Why do you want to go on a regular Verizon plan from prepaid? I m using an iPhone on Verizon prepaid because it is a lot cheaper than postpaid and works great.

Thanks Georgejr, you might have saved me some $$. Even though I have a prepaid plan on my flip phone, I didn't think to look at it for the iPhone also. From what I can decipher from Verizon's website, the 2 GB plan for postpaid will be $55 + tax/fees and the 3 GB prepaid plan $40 + tax/fees. Does that sound about right to you? If so, it would be a fairly easy decision.

Does anyone know of any disadvantages of going with the prepaid plan? If so, please advise. The only thing I'm aware of (from this forum) is that you cannot preorder a newly released Verizon iPhone if you don't have a postpaid plan on your present phone.

Thanks for any other information.

You can order. That restriction has been lifted.

Do you have comcast? You cam get verizon service much cheaper direct from them. Gotta buy iphone from them though, they dont have their byod program online... yet.

Thanks. Yes, I realize that I could order a phone now without any problem, but I was anticipating some hot new phone in the future and being constrained from an early preorder - similar to the situation for preorders for the X.

I don't have Comcast and prefer to purchase directly from Apple. If the $40 3 GB prepaid Verizon plan is for real and has no other major disadvantages, I'll be content with that.

The prepaid plan is for real. I have the 50 dollar plan for 7 gigs with rollover. I don't use much data and always have plenty with the rollover. I don't see any difference with connectivity or data speeds than when I had postpaid.

Sounds great - Thanks again for your help. I will go with the 3 GB plan but can always switch to 7 GB later for only $10 more if I need to.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving
