Those hardware sim composers are very unreliable and usually with each iOS update they become useless.
I wouldn't bother.
Can't you get the particular iPhone imei unlocked?

For anyone using the R Sim 11+, is it still working? I had it in my Amazon cart but hadn't gotten around to buying and now no longer in online cart and I am not finding it on Amazon. Tried to do a little searching and found a you tube clip with comments saying Apple has disabled the ability of this sim card to unlock to any carrier, so was curious.

I was planning to get an iPhone SE for a family member on my plan who will be upgrading from a basic phone and saw a suggestion on here to buy a prepaid ATT from Best Buy or similar for $150 and then use the sim card mentioned before to unlock to Verizon service.
No issue buying from Verizon or Apple though, thanks for the information.

Just a data point: i have been using r sim 11 plus since 10.3.3 on my att prepaid SE. went to 11.0, 11.0.1, and now 11.0.3 and no issues everything works.

That doesn't mean it will continue to always work with every future iOS update?;)
Why don't you just get that AT&T SE unlocked?

Right, "if" it does stop working then i can get it unlocked via a service for 37 bucks.

This one was $150 brand new vs 349 for the unlocked one.

Wanted to give r sim 11 plus a try and so far it has worked.

which prepaid iphone se will work with tmobile service? ofcourse after unlocking and which unlock service actually works?
thanks

I bought the prepaid one at Target last night for $150, plus $5 from AT&T for a new SIM card and it's working great for me on my regular old grandfathered plan.

I'm of the opinion that the SE the best phone Apple sells right now, so no, it's not even $200 better ;)

8 plus is definitely worth $450 more

Unless you need to have the latest and the greatest, or you having specific task or app that demands it (i doubt you having one), the answer is no.

Get the SE, unless you need bigger screen, then iP7 (or 7 Plus).

I purchased the R SIM 11+ via eBay for a couple bucks. Popped in my T-Mobile SIM and I kept getting the "SIM not supported message." The SE is on 10.3.3 too (purchased off of BBUY's web site for AT&T pre-paid). Looked at several YouTube videos and finally gave in and submitted an unlock request via Swiftunlocks.

I hear you, at least with an IMEI unlock you know that your device will be forever unlocked and you wont have to worry about sim adapters, ios versions or not being able to update or losing your unlock.

I have since sold my iPhone 7 while upgrading my Android phones, but kept the SE because that's the one with the headphone jack. Actually I bought more than one SE during that time.

Really you can go on eBay and get a 32 GB for under $200. I got mine for $190 after the 8's were announced. So really the question is, iPhone 8 vs. iPhone SE - $600 better? And I would answer with a big fat NO!

Exactly. I was pretty disappointed with the R SIM. But fortunately, I only paid a couple bucks for it, so all wasn't lost. But lesson learned.

Yes its worth it.
I upgraded did last week. I ordered it from the Apple Store and got it on St Patrick's Day. First off I am perfectly happy with the SE. A great little phone, fits well in my life and what I use it for. But I I was seriously thinking about my next phone and wanted to weigh the pros and cons. I ultimately decided to pull the trigger due to a number of decisions that worked for me. My reasons were as follows:
1. I had a substantial Apple Store gift card to use. Who wouldn't want an iPhone 8 for $200?
2. I was not interested in the X. To heavy and way too expensive for me.
3. I wanted the home button still.
4. I wanted the Sim Free version with the Qualcomm Modem to use anywhere. I did not want the intel one. Not one particular reason, but a few. I'm just generally pissed that these two companies can't work out their differences. Two great products together is best for all of us. Qualcomm is tops in this market for a reason. BTW, I'm on AT&T and it's great.

So those are the reasons. Now here is how I felt when I got it:
1. Wow its fast!
2. Great pics and sound!
3. Beautiful screen and true tone!
4. Wireless charging and Bluetooth 5!
5. Quite a few upgrades coming from the SE.
6. Damn, this thing is BIG, I got two weeks to make up my mind. What am I going to do???
7. One week in, I'm sold. The SE is nice, feels great in the hand, but damn, this final version of this design is the best, RIP to this form factor. I own the best of each version (4s, SE, 8).
8. Now when I look at the SE, its visually much smaller, and I'm glad to have the larger screen. The + is way too big for my needs. I did get used to the lager size both visually and physically.
9. So if I had to choose, I'm sticking with the 8 over the SE. Even if they make the SE 2, it may probably lose some of the features I mentioned above that I still like.

Hope this helps...

Depends a lot on how long you plan to keep it.

I recently bought an 8 and the SE was the other finalist in the decision. But if you look at he specs, the 8 is quite up-to-date while the SE is quite old technology. Many new features on the 8 also. I think the 8 will last me for at least 3 years, while I'd be looking to switch out the SE for something newer much sooner. I am very happy with the 8.

Given the rarity we won’t see an iPhone SE 2 anytime soon I believe, all it really needs is an updated display with a higher resolution, updated processor, upgraded camera and perhaps a slightly tweaked casing. But the SE is great as it is because the form factor and affordability. If Apple starts adding all new features, it just increases the price point.

Newbie here, re: unlocking.

Is it really possible to go buy a postpaid phone at Best Buy and then do something to have it unlocked the same day using a third-party service?
