So my Mom has a 6S and it's begun showing its age, and she'd like to upgrade to a slightly newer model. She's been long overdue for an upgrade so she's finally willing to look into a newer model but I'm not sure what to help lead her towards. She's a very simple phone user, she only calls/texts and listens to music, and watches YouTube on her phone too occasionally. She also likes taking pics with it as well, so the next photo will have to have a higher storage capacity. But my main question is to get peoples opinion on what model for a basic user like her, should she look into the 8 or the SE? She prefers the size of the 6S, so that way she can use her UAG case on the next model that's also 4.7 inches. I was thinking about leading her towards the regular 8 since that's the same size as the 6S, but I've recently learned about the SE. I'm not very familiar with it so I was wondering what peoples opinions on it were and if you'd think it'd be perfect for her considering what she does.

Apparently according to a new report the SE 2 is supposed to be as good or stronger than the standard 8, and is due to launch mid April to my understanding. What does the standard SE limit compared to a regular iPhone? Because if the rumors are true the SE 2 may be perfect for her. I just don't know what the SE limits compared to a normal iPhone, so if anyone could give their opinions I'd appreciate it!

everything that is known so far is still a rumor, yet the rumors are strongly supported by multiple sources. we won't know for sure until this new "SE" arrives.

that being said, if she can wait, and the rumors are true, then it would behoove her to wait for the SE since it will essentially be a better, less expensive iPhone 8.

the only comment i'll make is that her case working is questionable depending on camera cutouts. some of the iPhone 6/6S cases didn't work with the 7/8 because the cameras are slightly different in positioning.

To go along with the response given by @Derek87 regarding the case, it's unlikely she will be able to use the same case for the new SE2 from her older 6s. In any event, a new clear case is generally inexpensive and always a good idea to buy a new one for a new iPhone.

The iPhone 8 will be discontinued from the Apple Store sometime next week. In fact, it's already out of stock.

A direct upgrade from the iPhone 6s would be the SE2. The SE would be a downgrade.

The iPhone 9 will be the better deal unless you REALLY want 3D Touch. That’s literally the only advantage the 8 will have over the iPhone 9.
