Poor cell phone reception in the Catskills
Re. the unfortunate elderly couple who died:
Whether ATT cares to put cell towers in remote locations is debatable, and ATT's motivation for not doing so may be money. But if my area (CA) is any example, anyone who tries to put any radio facility anywhere (cell towers, PG&E Smart Meters, whatever) is confronted with two groups who sue, badger, and otherwise work to prevent radio waves: environmentalists who object to the look of such towers, and people who've come to believe that radio waves will kill them (unfounded - radio is not ionizing radiation so it cannot cause cancer; the jury is out on other possible health issues, but since we are all bombarded by radio, both natural and man made all the time, it's not clear that their fears are anything but panic and based on emotion).
I can well imagine that in the Catskills, there is active resistance to cell towers.
