I believe there should be some more iPhone info later today as it is leaked or tomorrow since there is an iphone conference call scheduled with Managers.

Okay we really need a YAWN emoticon here.

Oh and will you stop saying that the iPhone goes on sale on the 29th. It doesn't! It goes on sale in the US on the 29th.

This isnt the only topic

I thought this was MacRumors, but when Apple changed from Apple to Computer to Apple Inc, I guess this changed to iPhoneRumors. If this gets any more out of hand I think we may need a completely separate site. Don't get me wrong I think the iPhone is great and sooner or later I will get one, but someone remind Apple that they still make computers.

Really? Nothing else on Macrumors but iPhone stuff? Really?

New iMacs rumor a few days ago
Leopard screen shots and developer info
Apple car navigation?
iWork in 3d?
Safari on PC's
Plus dont forget, Apple just realeased updated MacBook Pros

I agree the iPhone is getting a lot of coverage, but that only because it is the information available. Its not like Macrumors is overlooking other rumors/stories to run the iPhone stuff, they just report on what they hear.

I am already an AT&T/Cingular subscriber. Will I be able to do a renewal contract (and keep my number) by buying online at the Apple Store?

As much fun as I think it would be to have one of the first iPhones, I'm going to wait a bit to see how it looks after the dust settles (not only in terms of the rate plan questions, but its functionality in general).

Yeah, too many unanswered questions and rev a purchases are always risky IMO.

The only reason I can think of to announce something on a Friday would be in hopes that the groaning will have died down by the time the market opens on Monday or that the mainstream press will not cover it as much or even that Joe Consumer somehow misses the announcement altogether.

I'll take that as a challenge to come up with an alternate hypothesis: maybe they're launching it on Friday so that the first wave of buyers spends all weekend talking on their shiny new phone to everyone who'll listen.

Looks like the rumors that AT&T Stores will have limited inventory don't make sense. If they are closing and reopening at six and staying open late indicates plenty of inventory will be available for distribution.

First day sales will blow industry minds. This is a whole new ball game starting next Friday.

If its only 500,000 units, thats $2.5 billion plus in hardware revenue alone. Big close for the quarter for sure.
:D :D :D

more like 250 million at $500 a piece... ;)

I'm going to get an iPhone, but I may get too pissed off to get one. I don't want to stand in line to give my money to someone.

Unless the iPhone wipes my butt and cleans my car, I'm not going to be impressed after waiting in line for X hours.

Things can go south real quick if AT&T and Apple don't get everything right. Making people stand in line is not the best marketing. Not having enough units to fill demand is not the best marketing.

Look at the PS3 as an example of what not to do.

Funny, it hasn't hurt the Wii.

That is because the Wii rocks. The PS3 is ho-hum.

If the iPhone is all that, then nothing will hurt it. If not, then everyone will throw rocks at it.

I guess I'm saying it better be worth the trouble you put people through.

Just got back from the local AT&T store.
This is their take (that they state as fact):
You should order online, then come in store to activate it (4 per store per week for months... only in the main stores).
Any plan they have will work.
They will 'force' you to get the higher data plan $39 (but the cheaper one will work...$19).
They told me to get free phones now, then order an iphone and come and activate it - so 3 free phones... as backups?

That's what info they had.

I don't see why not. They have to have some way to sign people up and sell the things online. I'm going to buy mine from the Apple online store. I'm just not sure exactly how it will work. It seems like your situation would be pretty common. You're exactly the customer Apple and AT&T want!

.

similar to my Treo 650. I won it from Palm...and simply switched my sim card from my Motorola to my Treo...I added the $19 data plan for my 'motorola' and get full data on my Treo. That won't be easy to do unless/until you can buy an iPhone from a friend...so figure on $40 for data !!! ouch!

buy & replace soon with 2nd gen?

is there a downside to getting the iPhone now, knowing i'll update when a better one's released?

if i initiate att service now and buy an iPhone, is there anything to keep me from selling it later if apple announces an improved version before the contract expires? ie., is there anything about the initial iphone that would preclude anyone from wanting to buy it from an individual? and would i be able to buy a new one and just replace the unit on my existing contract?

that's my plan--buy now, adjust later--just wanna make sure it's a sound plan!
