If I bought a friend's iPhone today (7/3) and activated it with AT&T, would I pay the old plan pricing (i.e., $20/month data)?

Does that change on 7/11?

The 1st Gen iPhone plans are not changing, at least not in the immediate future, they will remain at $20 for the data plan..

The change in data plan pricing is only for the new 3G iPhone..

Yes, version 1 iPhones are $20/month for data. It will still be $20/month after July 11th for the first gens.
