I was just wondering... can you buy an iphone without activating it? I was thinking about doing this, and just using it like an itouch? I already have a free phone so I don't want to pay the ridiculous charges for an unlimited data plan. And considering it's 130 bucks cheaper (and basically an iphone w/o the phone), I was just wondering if it was a possibility?
I guess I could always just cancel the plan after I get it, but I was also wondering if you can even get on the thing if it's not connected to an AT&T plan? sorry if this is answered already.

Pardon me for asking, but you want to buy an iPhone only to use it as an iPod Touch?

Why not just buy an iPod Touch?

You can't from a store in the U.S.

Buy from Belgium, Italy, or one of the other places it is sold unlocked. Be prepared to pay ANYTHING.

It's doable, but you would pay the non-subsidized price of $599 or $699 plus tax and you would have to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone...

You have to get the data plan, but as you say you can cancel b4 30 days. You then have to pay fees though and make sure you don't miss the date. There is a thread about all the mess involved with that that is on here that was opened today or yesterday. You could also just get the touch.

again, 130 bucks cheaper for basically the same thing.

Okay, I am assuming you're talking about a subsidized iPhone 3G ($99) ??

AT&T doesn't just sell phones at subsidized prices to people off the street.

I really think an iPod Touch is best for you.

Sounds like the fees would defeat the purpose... I'll look for a touch. What about iphones that are on ebay? no plan, no activation... ? no? lol

You're going to pay quite a bit for an iPhone on ebay.

You could always try finding an iPod touch on ebay?
