Yes, thin/compact and light weight are mainly about function, not form. This is true in tech devices, cars, camping gear--many things in life. Getting things to be smaller and lighter has functional benefits that should be obvious.

An actual example of form over function is using titanium over aluminum for the iPhone. It's heavier and has worse thermals--two actual issues people have had in recent years with iPhone usability. Its only benefits are it's more resistant against dings which is an aesthetic matter; and some people think it looks nicer which again is aesthetic; and some just like that it's a more expensive material which is neither form nor function, I don't know what that is. But its usage are distinctly form over function.

Totally agree. Not sure how much stronger the titanium makes the Air but being that I've never had issues with iPhones bending or breaking I would have preferred they used aluminum and made the air even lighter. My guess is they wanted to dispel any thoughts of the Air bending easily due to how thin it was because that was some peoples expectation.
I always hated the SS on the Pros as they continued to get heavier. I was pretty happy when the 15pro came out with titanium and a lighter weight but I know some people had issues with heat on them. I only really noticed the phone heating up when I would take pictures back to back trying to get a good shot of my toddler. I haven't had that issue with the air though.

I don’t care about either, aesthetics have always been important and I really dislike the iPhone 17 Pro. As to the upcoming 18 Pro once again I will avoid it as it will probably be identical as no way will Apple change that design so quickly, personally I find it ugly. I like the Air but need better battery life.

Also I like black phones or dark grey at least. So I'll keep my 16 Pro going and if Apple continues down this path I may move to Android. I have a Android backup phone and tbh Android 16 is fine one you de-google it. I won't buy a phone I don't like the looks of, just because it runs iOS.

All iPhones will overheat eventually when used in high heat areas such as the beach on a hot sunny day or even at your patio. I have seen this even using my 17 Pro.

With that said, I use my Air and other iPhones and don’t worry too much about the “summer heat” as I personally haven’t experienced overheating issues here in the Florida heat, even when using my Air. Love how so many on here are hating openly on the Air. Personally, I haven’t had any issue with my Air and enjoy using it when I take it for the week. It is a solid iPhone.
Yes definitely, my old 12PM would overheat during gps and charging.

My air has been much better with no overheating.

It’s just some people are acting like it gets hot from idle lol.

Personally I think some people putting out hate for the Air have not personally owned or used this device for a few months before posting their hate for this iPhone without having actual experience using this device full time.

I can only say from having mine since launch day that every time I have used my Air as my full time device I haven’t experienced any “battery anxiety” or performance issues that YouTubers have put out. I’m speaking about my experience of actually owning and using this device. I could care less about sales statistics for this iPhone or the negativity that has been put out regarding this ultra thin and light iPhone.

I have to add that I completely get it if the Air is not for you but that does not necessarily make this iPhone a bad iPhone. I will always disagree based on my experience of using this device.

I had a 15 Pro Max and got the Air to replace the 15 Pro Max. Main reason: weight !

I have no problems with the battery, and I do not miss the telephoto lens. I only miss the ultra wide field because this is today the lens for macro photography. If the main lens could do macro, I would not need another lens...

And why the cringe for mono audio ?? Stereo on an iPhone is NOT an issue at all ! If you want good audio quality, get Airpods ...
So many people laugh at the air and edge but never used one, a overweight old like me really likes not feeling a budge in my pocket carrying my phone. I have multiple pouches and fanny packs to carry my phone and keys due to my stomach sticking over imao.

I'm guessing all these tech bros and air haters are young, slim and do well to eat really healthy and live good, old guys like me appreciate the slimness for certain.

Good thing you have the 16 pro because you might have to wait a while till the next redesign if you look at previous trends 👍🏾

My 16PM overheated so badly that CarPlay would stop working any time Apple Music and Apple Maps were going at the same time. Hasn’t happened one single time on my Air.

The only thing I’d change in gen 2 is an UW camera lens so I can take macro photos. And anything but iOS 26.

Put a UW lens on, and stereo speakers, and I won't be able to look past it!

Oh wow, that must have been insane, even with my old black 15 Pro Max (2nd one) I never had that happen, I did a 10 hour road trip in 32 degree (Celsius) weather when fetching my new car in late 2024, had Apple Music, Google Maps on Apple CarPlay and the phone was running quite warm (hot even at some points) but it never killed any of those apps or switched off. I did however have your experience with my 1st 15 Pro Max, the silver one, on the way to a football stadium to watch a big match, sitting in the traffic, had Waze going, phone overheated and turned off, that was like a month after it launched though, so it was on the early version of iOS17…

Glad to hear the Air fixed this despite using titanium too, means the A19 Pro is very good in terms of passive heat dissipation, so I do wonder how much heavy lifting the vapour chamber does on the 17 PM, I can say I have never even worried about it turning off when using it like that, it gets warm but never had it get hot the way the 15 PM used to get in the early days.
