I’m currently at 50% battery with 90 minutes of on screen time with my Air…I’ll wait to be too critical because I know the phone is still new but not looking great so far. I also restored from iCloud backup and didn’t set up as new.

That’s the thing, every year I enjoy setting up as new, especially since I always beta test. A nice clean slate and it always provides me with great battery, far better than an iCloud reset. I find if I then need to do an iCloud restore following the clean setup, I continue to have great battery. Lets me get rid of apps I don’t use, and check out all the settings I forget about. All part of the experience.

Whilst this is perhaps the closest test I have seen (whereas others showed the 16 lineup having a better battery life), I can’t help but call out all reviewers for using iOS versions with disparity.

As a rule, iOS versions are fully optimised for the devices for which they were created. Comparing the Air’s original, fully optimised iOS version (26) vs the 16 Pro’s updated version (and to add insult to injury, a redesigned, draining version), is nothing but misleading.

If you are going to show Apple’s rating, use the original iOS version designed for the 16 Pro (which is the version that Apple uses for their 27 hours rating). Otherwise the test is just garbage.

Still, most people do that. Other results show the Air far behind the 16 series, as I showed on this very thread:

Took the phone to the Cincinnati Reds game today (where we swept the Cubs thank you very much). Phone came off the charger at 10:30 after I parked. Used the phone while at the bar across from the park for random web surfing and texting until about 12:15 and then went to the park. Continued web surfing but also add in a bunch of photo and video taking, posting on Instagram and sending those to friends. At what was suppose to be first pitch at 1:40, a rain delay occurred that pushed game start to 2:50. In this 70 minutes I streamed Youtube TV watching NFL games. After the game started, proceeded to do some picture/video taking, messaging, and checking on the Mets game constantly. At about 5:45 I got back to the car and had 54% battery life.

This is about as hard as I'll push it and I was pleasantly surprised with the results. I'm not concerned about the battery at all from this point on.
