Lucky me..mines doing great…I do wish the speaker volume was about 15% louder for talking on speaker phone but so far that’s it but the size and weight makes up for everything so far… the new operating system is great too. That’s another bonus for all the phones.

So the people coming to the store on the first day to see the new iPhones are there to scratch them?

I never tried to make some gate out of anything, but this year it seems to me we're looking at a real gate for the first time since the 6 Plus, because this is not good. It's the first day, no way should the phones look like this already. I imagine we'll start seeing posts pop up on the forum as well, as buyers receive their units.
no they arent. The scratches just form out of thin air. Do you think the scratches get there from their skin or sharp objects?

Having the orange Pro Max in hand, its great, its fine. I don't think the anodized finishes are going to hold up great, they don't feel thick. But I like the color and I always use a case.
Who says they’re anodized? I think they’re just a paint or other coating. Anodized shouldn’t chip as seen in many of the photos posted. Even Apple’s own site never explicitly says Anodized

Apple says the pros are anodized like every other aluminum phone they’ve ever released. Watch the keynote.

It's made of space-age titanium, thinner than a piece of cardboard, stronger than a 2x4, it's literally a supercomputer that fits in your pocket, it has a DSLR-quality camera built-in, it has AI capabilities that the Star Trek producers couldn't even dream of, basically it's the ultimate communications device that man has ever mass-produced, and you're here complaining that it scratches.

Went to the Apple Store to look at all the new cool phones, watches, and just generally to see how the new design is. Kind of felt it was cool but not enough to buy - today.

AND... I picked up this black phone - today - first time on display and it is scratched bad. No other phones were scratched and I didn't see another iPhone Air black on display. Does anyone else think this is a huge problem? Anyone buy a black iPhone Air that might be scratched up already - or is it just the display.

I know other devices had scratches issues - I just found this soooo odd. Especially a new phone like this.

So you just went there? And saw a scratched phone?

So I was in an Apple store today and got talking to one of the sales people about the Ceramic Shield on the back of the iPhone Air.

I mentioned the scratches on the black Air.

He said that he'd spoken to someone from another Apple store who found that the Air has a thin superficial coating and that a lot of these scratches just surface level and can actually be cleaned up with an alcohol wipe (70% isopropyl). He literally got one of these wipes out and wiped the back of the phone and the scratches all disappeared.

Just something I thought I'd share, I don't own an Air myself.

This only apparently works for the main back of the phone/Ceramic Shield area, not the plateau.

Confirmed at my local apple store as well. Mods close this thread

The issue is the matt coating, were it glossy like it used to be there would be no need for alcohol wipes

The guy at the Apple Store I went to also pointed out that the product display stands have sharper metal edges than the standard MagSafe pucks do. But yeah all the phone backs were fairly scuffed, it’s just most noticeable on the black ones.
