you couldn't pay me to use an Air phone. What a waste. What a letdown. What an epic fail by Apple. Seriously what were they thinking? 🤔🤔

I get not wanting it, but I don't see why it's a waste for the right person?

I don't need or want a new phone right now, but if I did, it would be fine. Bedtime hits with 50% of my battery remaining, on a daily basis, without topping up (16 Pro), and I rarely use the camera. Seems like a good fit.

It's not worth a higher price point, to me, than the regular 17, but it seems like a fine device.

By what metric is the Air the “best” device since iPhone X?
I would say useability and that its a joy to hold in your hand unlike other phones. I have an Air and it is so much better to use all day long compared to the 16 Pro I had previously.

With that said it definitely could be improved upon: smaller size, lighter weight, and rounded sides would make the phone perfect from a physical perspective.

The Air seems to be an exception where we’re getting better deals in Europe for once, where you can get it for up to 30% off.
Really makes you wonder how it's selling. Did Apple or retailers like Amazon and Best Buy ever discount the iPhone mini or iPhone Plus models without requiring the buyer to sign up for an overpriced unlimited carrier plan or do 36 month bill credits? This has to be a first.

Useability is subjective though. I have pretty long fingers so for me the 17PM is very easy to use all day and I don’t find 8 ounces to be heavy or uncomfortable, but I know that some people do. This may be a factor that makes the phone better for “you” but not a metric that makes the phone better technically.

You must have really big hands because the Air is kinda on the verge of being too big for my hands as it is.

That’s kinda how I felt until I used my wife’s Air. I have a 17PM, and it feels kinda clunky now. I’m not willing to give up my Pro Max camera for it, though.

The article said the $200 discount requires signing up for a plan. The $100 discount is unlocked. Not sure if it's a first.

You got one and now you are disapointed? Think before buying...

...I know, you did not get one, so: Why complain about something you do neither own nor want.

Really want an Air. But I'll wait for the 2nd gen - if it comes with proper stereo speakers and a second ultra-wide camera, along with whatever other upgrades.
At that point I'm not sure there will be enough distinction in the lineup between the Air and the standard iPhone.

Edit- actually there may be still be enough distinction. You choose faster, thinner, lighter, bigger, more durable for a little more, or give up those for a little less plus you get more battery.

The article doesn't say you have to sign up for a plan...

... just that you have to activate the iPhone Air through either Verizon or AT&T. For those who don't have Verizon or AT&T (i.e. they have T-Mobile or an MVNO), they only get $100 off instead of $200.

I understand this to be similar to how Apple charges $30 more if the buyer wants to activate and connect to a carrier later.

This is what Best Buy says about them activating the device for you to get the $200 discount.

Very Tempting. Not sure what the "help getting activated through Verizon" would entail.... I don't want them to screw up my account and have it disappear some trade in discounts on my line I have going on right now..
