14 years since Steve left us, who can believe it has been so long? 14 years without a revolutionary product design, and now we get iPhone Air. Apple coming back to its roots and the haters returning to their hateroots, I love it.

"It only has 5 GPU cores instead of 6! And who would pay that much for 12GB RAM? Turd sandwich."

MORE PLEASE haters. You don't get it, and you never will. If it weren't for Steve, you'd still be running Flash videos on your Palm Pilots in ignorance.

THIS is Apple returning to its core as an INDUSTRIAL DESIGN company. THIS is the future - like it or not, haters. iPHONE AIR.

I didn’t even mention lack of one gpu before even I knew it since this is a very small factor. What matter more are it lack of one camera, 15% less battery, one speaker only all of these are conpared to cheaper 17 base. Their weight are almost the same too. Air is not innovative, it is normal for a product becomes thinner after cut off so many things and they even charge you much more.

And the A19 Pro is going to be an absolute beast of a chip. Apple has cooked with this silicone. Bravo 👏

Saying it’s a 5.6mm super computer isn’t far wrong.

To start on a right note - I am an Apple enthusiast and definitely not a hater. I have used Apple products since 2006 and enjoyed every single one of them. I like Air’s design, it is very sleek indeed.

I am also quite cold-headed when it comes to tech, though, so will be waiting to check Air in store and will wait for reviews and real life experiences on how it handles the real life, vs Apple’s upbeat commercials. I am particularly interested in these aspects - the camera, heat dissipation, and new C1X and N1 chips. If all of the three are doing alright - great, kudos to Apple, if not - better to wait for a next gen Air with less compromises.

Talking of the marvels of industrial design, the latest slim iPads Pro come to mind. A proven sleek tech marvel without any compromises. Can iPhone Air do the same? Let’s wait for a few weeks and see.

I’m not hating on the iPhone Air, but I’m sitting here reading this on my M4 iPad Pro shaking my head a bit. To me, this iPad Pro is what the Air’s design takes inspiration from and kind of aspires to be - it has the thinness (which I don’t personally even care about that much, but it is impressive to behold on its own merits) but it didn’t/doesn’t make as many compromises compared to other models as I think the iPhone Air does. And it was launched last year.

Having said that I think the iPhone Air is still an important marker for future iPhones, and once the compromises now are overcome in future models that’ll seem obvious to everyone. If it’s a device that will already work for you right now, good luck to you with it, enjoy.

But, IMHO it’s not the best product Tim Cook has launched - I’d argue the M4 iPad Pro has a shout as I’ve outlined, but also the first Apple Silicon Macs were a huge leap forward in performance.

Actually the M4 iPad Pro ( I have one) did make some compromises.
Firstly, the battery life and secondly the speakers are inferior to the iPad Pros before it.

The iPhone Air is likely the 12” retina MacBook of iPhones.

Looks hot, gets hot, then the battery dies.

I had a 12” retina MB, loved it, but it was largely useless in the scheme of things. I’d probably like the Air myself but I never want to go back to the days of midday charging. Too spoilt by Pro Max battery life that, for my usage, leaves me comfortably with 30 or 40% left at the end of the day, even with the old ass battery in my 13PM.

This. A rational human having rational thoughts. Thank you.👍🏼

Little copper wouldn’t help much, Apple marketing wordings don’t mean anything
Their wordings are backed up by the EU's testing findings, which even Apple doesn't want to have to do and has been forced on them by the EU...

The iPhone Air is Class A for Energy Efficiency, where last year’s Pros were Class B. Huge improvement.

Air matches or exceeds 16 Pro on all battery tests, but less than 16 Pro Max. However, the gap is very close for average use to the Pro Max (~18-22 hours real-world for all).

The Air has a Class A battery cycle life (1000 cycles) vs 800-900 cycles on 16 Pro and Pro Max. Better long term longevity.

Drop tests wise, the Air survived 180 falls from 1m (Class B) while the 16 Pro and Pro Max survived 90 (Class C). Double the survival rate vs 16 Pro models. Matches 17 Pro Max.

Scratch Resistance - Class A. Last year’s models - Class B.

Bend Tests - Outperforms 16 Pro in all tests and was fine over 3000 bend cycles.

1. The iPhone 17 Pro is an incredible phone and a powerhouse for people who want the very best cameras and very longest batteries.

2. The iPhone Air is an engineering marvel, with Pro performance, a great battery, a very good single camera and a beautiful design.

Both can be true at the same time.
