It is! Do you not understand what people would think of the computing power of the phones that we casually carry around today if you took one back in time just 30 years? Even Star Trek didn't predict mobile devices as good as our current smartphones. I know that it sounds like a cliched thing to say in the tech community, but NASA put men on the moon using computers that couldn't run the operating systems of today's watches! Yes, we carry around in our pockets devices that surpass a room fully of computing power in our parents' generation. The fact that we use them mainly to share memes and take selfies is beside the point. 😅

I cannot believe even Samsung phone is full of AI while much more expensive iPhone event would not even mention AI more than 10 seconds.

They tried with the mini, it failed in sells, they tried with the Plus it failed...not they try this.
This can work better since in general design sells

It's quite odd how defensive and reactionary Air lovers are to anything that isn't complete praise of the product. And it hasn't even been delivered to customers yet.
I mean, being this defensive over a product is ridiculous, but the fact that no one here has even had a chance to try one out takes it to the next level.

I like that Apple released the Air, they're trying something new, which is cool. I hope the product is successful. But to call it the best Tim has ever launched is wild. TRY ONE OUT FIRST.

This argument works in complete reverse - it's quite odd how defensive and reactionary some users are being to anything that isn't completely writing it off before it's even been reviewed, let alone delivered to customers.

The Air is the future but not the present. Tim’s legacy will be as money printer not innovator, and it’s clear Apple’s most important biggest new product launch under his leadership is the AirPod, evidenced by them worn seemingly by every person walking or running on the street like they were born with them in there ears.

To Tim’s credit he also moved Apple away from Intel and Qualcomm, and that should improve Apple;s ability to innovate going forward. But the Air is a beta product and nowhere near as cool as the OG MacBook Air.

Anyone who actually used the first gen MBA will tell you the iPhone Air is nowhere near the same level of “beta product”. It’ll get more than two major software updates, for one…

The iPhone Air is likely the 12” retina MacBook of iPhones.

Looks hot, gets hot, then the battery dies.

I had a 12” retina MB, loved it, but it was largely useless in the scheme of things. I’d probably like the Air myself but I never want to go back to the days of midday charging. Too spoilt by Pro Max battery life that, for my usage, leaves me comfortably with 30 or 40% left at the end of the day, even with the old ass battery in my 13PM.
I loved the 12” MB , one of my fave laptops , was so small and light and had enough power for everything I was using it for , was the perfect laptop for travel.

Never had issues with battery or battery life on that laptop either

Was kinda sad they never revisited it with the M1 chips and newer

The Air to me feels like Apple finally being Apple again. Because the Apple we all know and fell in love with took RISKS. It was never about putting every feature in an ordinary product, like any other OEM could/does. It's been about pushing the boundaries of what's possible in terms of engineering and physics (and design). The Air announcement gave me the same goosebumps that the iPhone X and OG MacBook Air did back in the day.

Steve would be proud.

I have a 15 Pro Max, and if I decide to upgrade the air is tempting. Kind of hard to explain why, but I think the phrase "a certain je ne sais quoi" really fits. It's the first iPhone that has felt "new" to me in quite a while. I like the thinner form factor as I always carry my phone in a front pocket. Battery life for me is not a concern as I charge to 80% every night and never run short. I don't care about stereo speakers as long as the single speaker is loud enough for an occasional speaker phone call. The camera is a question for me--will wait for reviews.

It looks nice but no second speaker is a big disadvantage to me. I would have much preferred no USB-C, anyway there is AirDrop which I would usually use for data transfers.

It might be innovative but… incomplete. Also size is kinda big to my liking. I will probably wait one year more and see if they fix what I dislike in second iteration
Air Drop is hit and miss , I’d rather of them put USB3 vs the crappy USB2 , they put the A19 Pro but then put USB2…

Hate to share bad news but you are wrong on both statements.

2018 Macbook Retina w/ i5 still going strong - it's my daily bedside computer.

Battery life is still amazing after 5 years, stays very cool and it's my lightest travel laptop.

Upcoming 17 Air will be as Apple quoted "All day battery life"....

Depends if you use it at maximum of its potential then he is right.

Yes, if I wanted maximum performance with very multi task intensive apps, throttling the CPU, then I would choose the correct tool - my Mac Studio Max, iMac M4 or iPhone Pro (which I have all at work).

As a casual, light user - I love my 12" Retina Macbook, 15" Macbook Air and upcoming 17 Air - at home / personal use.

Tech evolves so fast that an 30 years super computer is garbage today. So the choice of words was the problem, saying like the Air is an current super computer

Well if it's words, then a current supercomputer has fewer applications than an iPhone Air, which has older supercomputer performance in your pocket.

Which is ****ing amazing quite frankly (as someone who writes a lot of mathematical simulation stuff).

Funny. No one has one yet it's OMG IT'S A MIRACLE!!!!

It's the best thing since sliced bread, and even thinner than sliced bread!!!
Once again, the reverse is also (arguably more) true on this forum.

No one has it yet OMG IT'S SUCH A DUD!!!! IT'S THE MINI ALL OVER AGAIN!!!

It's the biggest nothing-burger scam since the dawn of time, compromised in every way!!!!

Too many hyperbolic titles and rants.

For a correct evaluation of the iPhone Air you have to consider:

Pro. light and thin. I appreciate that they manage to reach a record 5,6 mm with 165 g. I hope future iPhones in general will get this light and thin. Also a smaller model will be welcome.
12 gb of ram and other specs match the pro models. The plateau is used to host internal components (in the pro too) and finally make the wobbling on the desk disappear.

Con. Single speaker, single fusion camera with only 2x optical zoom. Costs more than 17.

To consider. A bit larger and taller than 17 (for me a con). Titanium is a premium and costly material and it was necessary for the structural rigidity but thermally it is worse. I don’t care much about battery, which will be anyway good for most users. Slower Wireless charging at 20w and usb 2 speed. Only esim. Slightly downgraded gpu but I never play videogames on iPhone.

Overall we see something new that could pave the way for future versions, I would like to try it to see if it can become my main phone ! The plus model was not selling well, so it was worth to try anyway. The 17 with finally the 120 Hz screen is very very good this year, but personally I will reward the effort for a different phone.

Agree - it's a revolutionary new form factor that is causing ripples thru the Pro / Pro Max camp.

Change is hard, but I think it's a great move by Apple.

I jumped on it as soon as I found out because my 16 Pro is just too heavy and bulky - I wear 2 iPhone Pros daily.

So if this Air works out, I will change out my 14PM work phone to 17 Air....

I was never expecting the iPhone Air to be released this fall. Also, did not expect so much negative opinions. I was able to change my order a couple of times last night, and still get launch date shipping. I was also hesitant on purchasing this iPhone. I went back and forth from ordering the Pro Max and the Air. I knew why I did not want the Pro Max, but the Air is an unknown. Apple tends to lead us to new products, because the end goal is a future unannounced product. I don't think they did a good job of announcing this product. They should have not announced the MagSafe battery. A quiet launch would have been much better. The Air, if you haven't noticed, all the iPhone body is battery and screen. The other parts are all located in the camera bump. This is why there are limitations. It could only have 1 camera, and 1 speaker. My concerns is the battery life and heating. I can't wait to see the reviews that will drop on Wednesday and Thursday next week. These reviewers will hopefully tell us how the battery and heating performs.
