That seems really strange to me that you could feel a difference at the Apple store. What were you doing on these devices at the store that had them running hot?

The Air runs noticeably cooler than my 14PM and 15PM ever did. I'm betting what you noticed is the A19 Pro rather than the vapour chamber. In fact the vapour chamber would make the phone feel hotter in the hand quicker because it's getting the heat away from the chip, into the chassis where your hand can feel it. This just doesn't add up.
Both phones were literally MagSafe charging showing their usual demo/price screens and neither had been used for a while. I use MagSafe daily and know how it heats a phone up. The Pros were so much cooler even my son was surprised. I mean cold to the touch, not even a hint of warm.

The vapor chamber spreads it out so it cools quicker and doesn’t get as hot. Makes sense from a physics perspective.

I just didn’t expect it to feel cold. That was just plain wild. We do live in an high altitude arid climate so it’s possible that it’s just best case scenario type of thing as heat dissipates rapidly here.

OK well that does make sense if they were charging. However I will say that the Air doesn't get anywhere near as hot as the 14PM and 15PM does while charging. I've tested charging from nearly dead, with both MagSafe and USB-C and the phone is just slightly warm to the touch, whereas my last two phones would be an inferno by comparison.

I've gone from 15P to the Air. I love it. I got the Pro models mostly for ProMotion and AOD. I am not a photographer or videographer. It is big, but it is light and ergonomic. The only time I listen to the phone speaker is when the alarm wakes me up in the morning so I'm not at all bothered by the speaker thing. I'm so glad there was a phone this year that gives me all the stuff I want and not what I don't need-including all the Pro weight. I hope everyone else is equally happy with their choice.

I think that’s exactly why they made the compromises they did. Can’t have it cutting into Pro sales.
I think the cameras and better Ram will always help sell the Pro models admittedly. People want top tier performance and thats great, but those of us that want bigger but not better deserve nice devices too!

What you’re failing to consider is the vapor chamber on the Pros. Just handled them myself at the Apple store and they’re noticeably cooler than the Air or iPhone 17. Like, “oh, this is definitely the phone I’m getting,” noticeable. That’s going to lead to faster sustained performance which is what makes them quicker overall.

I think the 17 Pro feeling cooler also has to do with aluminum generally feeling cooler to the touch than the Air's titanium/glass finish.

I have an Air and 17 Pro Max. The 17 Pro Max still heats up during demanding tasks or gaming. The vapor chamber seems great so far, and it definitely cools way better than the Air either way.

According to Antutu Benchmark, my Air actually has a bit more RAM than my 17 Pro Max. Not sure how reliable the app is for that sort of thing though.

If the entire Air was the same thinness throughout, I think I'd be more impressed.
Yeah, like an iPhone 6 or 7?

I still have a working 7 linked to an old iCloud account - just in case I need to access it. It has a teeny-tiny camera bump. I think that's when camera bumps started.

Prior to that, the sixes were pretty-much uniform thickness IIRC.

The Air is very close to the Pro Max. I doubt any Pro Max owner switching to the Air feels they’re missing anything size-wise.

Coming from 16 PM, I got used to the smaller screen size right away. It’s not that big of difference for me. I actually like this smaller size. I can do most things one handed now that I couldn’t before. The air is amazing, I haven’t been this wowed in so long and I’ve own every model since iPhone 4.

Came from a 14 Pro, the weight and thinness has not affected my one had use. Increse is RAM has been huge, while I generally have ~4 Safari tabs and cycle between 2-3 apps and generally only keep Safari open while force closing everything else, I have not had a single refresh switching back.

Bite the bullet and ordered a 256 gb Air Light Gold. It will arrive 1st October (long short story, a friend of mine bought it for me in USA and will bring it in Italy when she will came back after vacation).

This is exactly the thread I was looking for.

I currently have the AIR 256GB in cloud white coming from and iPhone Pro 14.

Love the form factor of the phone and like many others have said the back camera is more than sufficient for me, as many of my photos in my library were taken with the iPhone 14 Pro front lens. I may miss the wide angle lens from time to time but thats definitely not a deal breaker.

I'm not sure if I'm having battery anxiety or if I'm just thinking too much into it, but I'm slightly concerned with the battery thus far. Seems very irregular and hoping that it will level out in the next couple of days. Anyone else feeling this way?? What's everyone getting on a single charge for OST?? Would love to compare.

Came from XS Max and 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 PM.

The Air is what I wanted all along...big screen in a thin and light form.

First iPhone since the OG in 2007 that I'm going caseless. Love the feel of it.

I also bought both but returned the Pro Max. Love the Air but now miss the PM. Just wondering if anyone else has both?

I switched to the Air in cloud white from 16 Pro. After I picked it up on launch day, my bf held it for 5 seconds and asked to reserve one in space black for him. He had 16 Pro Max. Both of our grip with the Pro phones is the weight so we are super happy with the lightness of the Air. This past week I had to spend about 30 mins at the Genius Bar. While waiting, I played around the Orange 17 Pro. This is when I realized how good the screen of the Air is. Not sure if it’s the bigger size or what, but the 17 Pro’s screen did not feel as brilliant and immersive as the Air’s. Not sure if others have similar experience. Anyway, bf and I are both very happy with the Air and do not miss the Pro at all about 3 weeks in. Choose whichever model that is most suitable to you; there is an iPhone for everyone.

I tried out a regular 17 go a week against my Air and felt the same about the screen. The one on the Air just looks better to me

More like added to my Pro.

I did port my number to the Air.

Keeping the 16 Pro for those times I know I’ll be creating content.

It's funny the best built iPhone is not the pro this year. Def the Air. It's much better at resisting scratches and apparently sales too. I came from a 16 pro which I kept in case I need the camera for something work or music related. I really like the Air so far, it's kind of a less is more phone and I am down with it. It's really only less on the cam and battery. The speaker complaints are overblown. The Air also more of a Steve phone than any other lately. I am expecting an iPhone Ultra made out of titanium next year. It will be very light for its size and able to be dropped from tall buildings without a single scratch. It will have a mega solid state battery life capable of a 2 week continuous phone call from space. And the Speakers... quad neo 50 watt speakers will be able to double as a DJ setup. 🤘🤘🤘
