One less “weaker point” for water and dust (while the phone is water resistant up to some depth for a certain amount of time, removing the port would only make it reduce risk for damage), for looks, for making more room for battery, while solid it can also get damaged when it’s plugged in and you hit the cable at an angle. If the saved space isn’t filled with more battery it gives more room for other stuff like maybe a speaker at the bottom or other stuff.

Same reasons Apple wanted to get rid of the sim card tray.
Sim tray is different because you can replace it with firmware, whereas while Qi2 is great to have not everyone wants a physically large charger (I own a few of them). Design is about tradeoffs and having the USB-C charge port there is the right tradeoff as it gives people the opportunity to use anyone’s charger should they need to grab a charge, and everyone has one. Certainly far more than have wireless chargers. I’m not convinced by your reasoning, I’ve never had an iPhone port fail on me and I’ve seen iPhones survive extreme underwater tests on YouTube and keep my phone away from water nevertheless.

With all its shortcomings the iPhone air is thinner and lighter which in my opinion is worth its weight in gold when compared to the hefty bulky pro variant.

iPhone 17 pro feels like a small dumbbell in the pocket 😂

Good to know. Seems like the normal 20W charger will be more than enough to supply the peak charging speed supported. Anyway with a smaller battery, don’t think it is going to be an issue.

This is 18W on a smaller battery.

If you do 36W charge on a 36Whr battery it is one hour. If you do 18W on 18Whr it is still one hour.

If Apple could put USB-C 3.0 on Air, Silicon Carbon Battery and some crazy camera tech on a single lens it would be perfect.

I think the mAh craze has given people unnecessary forms of anxiety. Battery tech is (finally) evolving. Pretty soon battery anxiety will be a thing of the past. Life is short, folks - enjoy your purchases: Pro, Pro Max, Air, whatever.

There will never be a portless iPhone
There will be. The magnetic connector from the MacBooks will replace the USB c ports with a small magnet to make the phone portless. This will be the last step before they make phones wireless with short distance wireless charging and then long distance wireless charging. Like always apple products will get it decades late though
