My iPhone 7 is on 13.3.1 and it keeps popping notifications that I need to upgrade to 13.4.1, but the upgrade always fails. Also, when I plug the computer into my Mac and do "Check for Update" in iTunes, iTunes says "This version of the iPhone software (13.3.1) is the current version."

Anybody got a clue what might be going on?

My Mac is on 10.13.6 (the highest the hardware will allow) and iTunes 12.6.2.20

iTunes is wrong. Your device can be updated to the latest version of iOS. Why does it keep failing? Are you connected to strong WiFi and is the device on charge when you try to update?

Can you update your phone without using iTunes using general > software update from your phone?

Yeah I was attempting to update directly on the phone, with good wifi, and it was just immediately saying "Your phone could not be updated" or something like that. But... I finally got it. For future anthropologists, here's what happened:

Attempt #1: Failed, perhaps because battery too low (30ish%)

Attempt #2: Plugged it into computer. Failed.

So then I came to macrumors to post this question. Meanwhile the phone is charging

Attempt #3: Battery at 100%, still plugged in: Failed.

Attempt #4: Battery at 100%, unplugged: Update has started successfully. wtf.

So I guess the moral of the story is... iTunes has problems :) Thanks for chiming in to help.
