iPhone and photos - a question

The 3g will be my first iPhone device, so asking in case I need to do some work before it is released on Friday:

When you sync the iPhone with iPhoto, do the pictures automatically get resized (shrunk) to save space?

I don't know, but that's exactly what happens with my iPod.

So I'd assume the iPhone works the same way.

Yes they will be optimized for the iPhone and therefore require less space.
