Hi everyone. My wife uses an iPhone 7. I use an HTC Android phone. When I log in to the App store, Apple sends a 6 digit number to my wife's phone, which I then need to retrieve from her to log in to the store. The only trusted phone number in my Apple account is my Android phone number. I have tried amending and re entering my number many many times on the appleid.apple.com, but it still send the 6 digit code to my wife's phone. This is driving me nuts. Amy help in solving this would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

You're referring to 2FA. Apple is not going to send the code to the device you're using to access the App Store. What would be the point of that? They will send the code to the trusted device you have listed with them.

If you listed your Android phone as a trusted device, Apple has to send the code as SMS to your Android which may or may not work. Apple will then naturally send the code as an iMessage to your wife's iPhone.

Do you have a Mac? Apple can send the code to your Mac (assuming you have one). If not, have them send the code via email to you. You can list your email address for 2FA.

Hi chscag. Thanks for that. I am on a Mac Pro, and most of my purchases are from this computer, so I log in to the App Store from the MP. I can't see any options for listing an email address for 2FA. A workaround is that I ignore the 6 digit code sent to my wife, then click on "didn't get code" or some such, then I can choose an option to have Apple ring my android phone with the numbers. But it's wholly unnecessary and a complete PITA. I simply want the text or phone call sent to my Android phone the first time.

Thanks

It would also be nice if Apple gave people the option to have or not have 2FA. I've been using Macs since 1987, and the Apple of my youth is very different to the Apple of my declining years.

I hear you. :) I have resisted 2FA and as long as Apple gives me the choice not to implement it, I won't.

As for the email address, contact Apple and ask. I remember seeing that an email address can be used. The only glitch with using an email address is that it can not be the same as your Apple ID.
