What is the issue with waiting though? I haven't encountered the hour wait even once yet so it's not like daily or weekly activities will trigger it. The timer is also disabled if you are making changes from a trusted location, you can add those yourself too.
To me I have to stay up 2 hours just to get past the enrolment process that night. Not the dealbreaker in the grant scheme of things but I just want to say there’s more to it. As for trusted location, I didn’t add any.

Phones companies have been asked by the UK Home Office to help tackle the rise in phone snatching crime.

If a watch can detect a fall, and a phone a car accident, it seems feasible to implement a feature whereby a phone can detect when it has been snatched from someone‘s hands.
At that point it could A:Lock itself, B:generate a silent alert, C:after 30 seconds emit a loud alarm, D:after 1 minute wipe itself off (unless unlocked with authentication), with only Find My remaining forcibly active. During all this time, the Off button to be deactivated.

Why not?
What about a system where an upgraded AirTag, attached to your keys, could be used to activate a security lock on your stolen iPhone?

Triple click it, it instantly attaches to the nearest other iPhone and sends a ‘lock it down’ signal to the network.

This travels through the standard phone network in a way that can’t be deactivated by a user.

iPhone can then only be locked with passcode and Apple ID password.

I’d buy one of those

Looks like the trend is upwards, with some borough having exceptionally high number of thefts and percentage increase from previous years, however some borough have also seen reductions.

Thanks,

Yes, about half the boroughs have seen a reduction. Westminster is an area to take care in, but this also has a very high proportion of tourists and shoppers.

Do we have real-world tests of that feature yet? Because that link is just a blog post from may announcing the feature for „later this year“, and it apparently started to be available only three weeks ago, and only in Brazil?

Techradar

Not until October when Android 15 is available.

Reactions: the future
Freshers week in the UK (when first year university students arrive in a new city, go out at night and get drunk, and then try to use their phone to navigate to their student accommodation whilst staggering sideways like a crab) is like feeding time at the zoo for iPhone thieves in cities up and down the UK.
