ABout 2 months ago I changed the e-mail associated with my iTunes account because I no longer used that e-mail address. Since then, both Itunes and the iPhone app store bring up my old username by default. I wiped and re-imaged my PC a couple weeks ago due to an unrelated issue, but iTunes and the iPhone seem hell bent on making me use the old account.

I've tried everything I can think of to get rid of the old address, but nothing seems to work. I sign out of iTunes, enter the new account and login and then resync and it still has the old address. It won't even let me login using the old account.

Any suggestions?

Sounds to me like something is "stuck" on the Apple servers, and you'll need to contact their Customer Service and have them straighten it out.

Log into the iTunes store on your computer with the new account username. Afterwards, sync your iPhone. This should put the new account as the default for the App Store and iTunes store on the iPhone. Good Luck.

I pretty much took it for granted that "everything [he] can think of" would include those steps, but if not, then yes, certainly.

WOW. Sorry. Somehow I only seemed to read half of his message. And it seems he tried the way I suggested. My apologies. Well, at least that worked for me. Sorry man. Good Luck.

I have the same problem with both my iphone and Ipad. I just can't get them to load my new account - did you ever figure out what to do?

Moreover, in itunes click "Store" then "sign out". Then login in using your new details. Sync with your iphone/pad and hey presto!

Solution to being asked for passwords for old accounts

You have to delete each app one by one, and download again under new account, and delete them from itunes, and they will re register with new account info. So if you have paid apps you have to pay for them again or deal with headache of being asked for passwords for old previous accounts. Found this solution out myself by trying different things I thought would work.

Only for new ID

Moreover, in itunes click "Store" then "sign out". Then login in using your new details. Sync with your iphone/pad and hey presto!
Thanks! this is the only way to update apps on my Iphone4. Appstore only shows my old username. The apps I bought with the old ID don't update anymore, i think I really have to remove them en buy them again.

I found that the OLD email follows the app IF you purchased the app while you had the old email. Back up your device to the cloud. Delete the app from your device, search for it in the App Store, and download it from the Cloud. This just worked for me.

They probably (or at least hopefully) got it figured out (or perhaps moved on) by this point in time, almost 9 years later.
