Will there be applecare available for the iPhone? If so, how much? What will it cover?

I'm sure there will be, but we don't know the specifics yet (or if it will be offered by Apple, AT&T, or both).

I believe Cingular have stated that all support regarding the device will be handled by Apple, and support regarding the service will be handled by Cingular.

It's pretty much certain that AppleCare for iPhone will be offered. If I had to guess the price, I'd say $99-$169 - possibly $149.

accidental damage will be a huge issue given how much abuse most phones endure.

The Mac Mini ($599) Applecare is $149 ($99 EDU) so we might see it around that price point. For some reason, AppleCare on a computer seems so much easier to sell that AppleCare on a phone. If it's $99, I'll get it.

It may fall under the iPod AppleCare but we probably aren't that lucky but I would bet on $149.

It may also be a monthly plan that covers lost/stolen phones as well as accidental damage like most cell phone providers offer.
