iPhone as a Gift Question (Verizon)

I want to buy an iPhone X as a gift for a Verizon user. (one time payment)

I'd like the recipient to be able to open the gift and set it up as their replacement phone on the same number etc.. immediately if they choose.

So, what do i need to do or, what info will i need to have in order to do this? (preferably maintaining the surprise factor)

Buying an unlocked VZW iPhone X for a “friend”? Lol j/k. I believe you will have to buy a VZW X over the counter from the Apple store as device only( or maybe Best Buy, but I don’t think they like selling device only). Then your friend can just take their current VZW SIM card out of their existing phone and activate the iPhone X with it. You shouldn’t need any info from them to utilize this method.

1981d is right. Buy from Apple unlocked, wrap, place under tree (or in gift bag or around a dog's neck or whatever). Good to go the moment you stick a SIM in it.

i mean, that's what i want to do.. i was just under the impression that Apple wasn't selling unlocked iPhone X and the phone needs to be tied to an actual Verizon account.

You need to provide account information when ordering online. If you walk into an Apple Store, just need to tell them model/carrier, size, color.

can i make a reservation for a walk in like this? or will a reservation require the Acct info?

I’m pretty sure you will just have to get there when they open and hope they still have stock. The hardest part of the plan right now if finding supply. If this is a Christmas present, supply will probably loosen up well b4 Dec. 25

(yes, xmas present so i have some time i suppose.. i also have a bunch of Apple stores nearby.. but i'd order it now if i could without alerting the recipient)
