When using your iPhone as a modem for your Mac, have you done a speed test yet with one of those sites like this one: http://www.speedtest.net

If so; what are your results for downloading and uploading?

Just asking because if I can consistently get at least 5mbps download speed then I'll buy an iPhone when they hit Verizon this summer and that will fit perfectly with the mobile lifestyle I'm now living.

Thanks! :)
Steve

really doubt you'd get anything anywhere near 5mbps on any 3G network. Best I've ever gotten is almost 3 mbps on 3G, and that's rare.

you might look into Clear Internet if its available in your area. i've gotten over 8 mbps with their USB modem in downtown chicago.

It's a sin to recommend evil to others! Clear is always Clearwire and it makes AT&T seem like Verizon.

So that must be a good thing because Verizon here on the west coast is soooo much better than ATT and there will be a huge exodus from ATT for off-contract iPhone users when Verizon picks up the iPhone.

How do you guys get these crazy 3G speeds? I'm lucky to get 1 MB/s.

1MB/s is near improbable right now... 1Mb/s is on the other hand. However, that said... it may be that your cell site is full of people, or it has slow backhaul connection or that traffic on it is off the charts.

I'd go with the second option. Bad backhaul in your area.

This.

I live in NYC and while at the moment i have SPrint, i can tell you that millions of people in a 25 mile radius love to bog down 3G speeds.

Plus side, i have coverage everywhere.
