If you buy the sim free version of the the future iPhone XI, you wouldn't have to pay the $30 AT&T upgrade fee right? Could the sim from my old iPhone work with the new one? Or I could easily get a new sim for free from AT&T right?

If I am not mistaken, new SIM cards from AT&T cost $20.00. I can't answer your other question, as I am on Verizon. If the SIM is fairly new, I would think it would work. Just a guess.

AT&T SIM cards used to be free but now they charge $5 (According to the employee at the AT&T store; yesterday).

Sorry can't address the rest of your post concerning XI.

Correct. If you purchase an iPhone outright and use your current sim you do not have to pay an activation fee.

Kinda funny that when you upgrade your phone, and pay for it in interest free monthly installments, there is a $30 activation fee. They're gonna make you pay somewhere, somehow. 🙁

Is that sim free version, paid in full or iup?

In past years they were AT&T phones bought from Apple at full price. Pull the included AT&T SIM card and put in your own before turning it on. This time unlocked versions are being sold day one and I hopped on a MAX 512 grey
