*cough* ;) (And I'm sure I wasn't the first...)

Anyway, yes it does work, but I have no idea whether each store individually updates in real-time or periodically. And it of course says nothing about the number of units available. If they only have one unit, it'll be green, but it'll be gone before you can get there. :)
*AHEM*

All credit goes to me, tyvm.

;)

I've been doing it since July 11th, and I wasn't sure if it updated daily but it definitely does. So it is somewhat useful but not 100% accurate.

*gracefully bows*

TBH, I didn't think I could have discovered it first since we're all probably very geeky people who are not content to let things lie...Alex posted it because I posted it in the other thread, which is why I thought I'd get my nose in here. :)

Actually, I learned to adjust the clock back in the early '70's. This has been a very common thing since way back then. And I'm sure it probably dates back way before that. It was a way of dating the storage of a document on a computer back then. So, it carried into many other uses.

maybe i can help clarify...so all this week my store has been showing that they would not have the iphone the following day. however, after a week of this occurring, I got frustrated and called this morning right at opening time. I was told they did not plan on getting any in today so I further asked if they had gotten any shipments earlier in the week. To my suprise the guy said yes we have, but they usually sell out quickly in the morning.
I just tried the trick and surprise, it is showing all green for my store even though I was just there an hour ago and just called after seeing it and was told they were out of stock. I believe the availability is based on shipments that will arrive and are to be sold the following day. Even though my store is showing all green, the guy on the phone is saying sold out, so either 1. its due to arrive today or 2. it already arrived but they are not going to sell them until the morning to maintain the validity of checker. The frustration is only mounting.

Amazing!

I just tryed your little trick and it works great for my local store!

I checked the status and then called up the store"Sacramento, Arden Fair" and they indeed only had the white 16 left!

Well, props to ya!

I do not know if this has been posted on this thread but go to this link

http://www.apple.com/retail/iphone/feeds/3g_us_inv.json

It is the raw data that the iphone availibility link uses.

Search for your apple store and find out if they have stock. This is updated at least every hour, because I have been checking it, and it show some 8 GB instock at North Star Apple store in San Antonio...but now they are out of stock.

So use the link....still call before you go to be safe and sure.

Peace my brothers and sisters! I am still iphoneless but hopefully next week. The weekends are just to hard to get an Iphone 3g...too many people trying to get one on the weekends. I am not going to stand in line for 4 hours just for a phone.

Here is the first two lines showing alabama and Arizona

Notice the 7:00 which is 7PM

Probably not a good idea to leave your clock turned back for very long, especially if you use Time Machine for backups. Any files you create will be "mis-filed".

what i don't get about the availability checker and its accuracy is that if most apple stores close AFTER 9pm, how can they know if they'll have any in stock for the next day? i checked last night and they said they had phones available for today, but when i called them around 9:02pm last night, they said they had none in stock for the night. what's the deal apple? do you get shipments at like 6am or do you just hide some until the next morning to keep the buzz going?

I don't think that trick gives you any good info. They obviously are
doing an inventory after close for the NEXT day.

I think you just get yesterday evenings stats.

I checked this site after 9pm thursday night. An Apple store about 30-40 minutes from me showed all 3 models in stock.

The store opened @ 9am. Got there at about 8:15, and the "mall part" of the mall (walked in by the food court) was closed off due to construction. There was a barrier, with a few people waiting. I then went to find a security guard, told him what was up, and he escorted me to the Apple store!

First in line, what what!! :)

16gb black FTW!
