iPhone Back Up - Why does it take so long?

What is going on why does it take so long?

I have a 16gb iPhone with 9.5 gb used.

I have 2 pages of apps added and typically only add 5-6 new photos per day and 2-3 podcasts and maybe 1 playlist of 20-30 songs.

The back up is taking an hour FFS and then the sync about 5 mins.

What is going on. I'm backing up to a core 2 macbook.

Any ideas?
